Knightly Update February 25, 2024
ACP High School - Edition Vol 3 Issue 30
We had a great weekend. The science projects of five of our students won awards and were recognized at Saturday's Chandler Innovation Fair (CIF). Congratulations to Efe Altinkaya, Ankit Annasamudram, Aarna Patel, Rohan Shankar, and Helena Tang on the recognition they received. Absolutely amazing work, congratulations! It was great to see several of our students participate in Saturday's fair. They each represented ACP extremely well and helped to make CIF a fantastic experience for all that attended. Great job!
The members of Black Student Union have coordinated a special spirit week for students to participate in. The daily themes are included in today's update. In addition, BSU will be providing daily activities and lessons for students to engage. I hope our students choose to participate in the daily themes and have some fun celebrating and learning about Black History. I appreciate all our BSU has done to help our school celebrate Black History Month.
Our Speech & Debate team is headed to the state championship tournament on Friday and Saturday vying to bring back the state championship trophy. The team's had a tremendous regular season and I am excited to see how they do at state. The tournament is held at Mountain View HS and the public can attend. I look forward to watching the kids perform and cheering them on. Good luck at state!
In addition to Speech & Debate, our DECA students will be participating in the State Career Development Conference (SCDC) this weekend and will have the opportunity to network with over 2,200 of their peers from around the state while competing in one of 50 unique business competitions. Students have been busy preparing for this year's competition and I wish them the best of luck at the conference. Go, KNIGHTS!
If you haven't purchased a CEF Winner's Choice Car of Cash Raffle Ticket, please consider doing so. Your support directly impacts CUSD, ACP, and our students and staff. Information and a link to purchase your lucky ticket is included in today's newsletter. Thank you for your support and generosity!
It is hard to believe we are at the end of February and heading into March. It seems like this quarter was just beginning and now we have just 10 instructional days left. Amazing how fast time goes. As we prepare for the break and start of the fourth quarter, information about next quarter's state testing and corresponding late start days is included in today's newsletter. Please review this information so you are prepared for the changes to the schedule the week of April 8th. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Unfortunately, we continue to get concerns from our neighbors regarding school traffic. Lately, complaints have surfaced regarding students loitering in the yards/property of our neighbors as they wait for family members to pick them up after school. As a reminder, students must NOT be loitering in the yards or driveways of any of our neighbors. Residents have shared that they will begin contacting law enforcement and request students be sited for trespassing if the behavior continues. Your immediate attention in addressing this concern with your child is appreciated. Thank you.
I hope you have a nice week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Enjoy your week.

Knights in the Spotlight
Maggie Brown is an ACPHS sophomore and member of the Lady Knights tennis team. She was recently named Regional President of SecondServe.org, a youth-run non-profit that redistributes new and gently used tennis equipment to underserved children in the U.S. and around the world. To date, she has collected over $1,000 in new and gently used tennis equipment. In the fall, she set-up a donation box in the front office of ACPHS during Freshman try-outs. She has long-term donation boxes set-up at Tennis Cabana in Chandler and the Mesa Tennis Center.
She is quoted on the Secondserve.org website as saying "I believe that Tennis is just like life, mental toughness is just as important as your physical abilities. I hope to introduce the best sport ever to underserved communities around the world." Way to go, Maggie!

ACP sophomore, Ojal Parimisetty recently wrote an article where she shares ten items that she believes will help teenagers find success in college. Her work was picked up by a local newspaper, along with our own Knight Times, and published. Great work, Ojal. Thank you for looking to find ways to support your peers and teens around the Valley. Nice job! Click here to read Ojal's article.

ACP's Model United Nations club participated in the 26th Annual Sonoran Desert Conference over President's Day weekend. Our school was commended for bringing the second-largest contingency, with the largest group of novices—a hallmark of how the club has grown!

Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
