Veterinarians
The Animal Doctors
What they do
Veterinarians care for the health of animals. They diagnose, treat, or research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, and animals in zoos, racetracks, and laboratories. They must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license. Most veterinarians examine animals to diagnose their heath problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgeries, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment like x-ray machines, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals.
