2020/21 LCUSD Elementary Update

Aug. 23, 2020

Dear Families,

We wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your cooperation with distance learning last week! Our teachers did an incredible job meeting daily with students and helping them get up to speed on the tools they will be using this year. We know many of you have been directly involved with getting your children logged in to Zooms or Google Meets, helping them with Seesaw or Google Classroom, and navigating PE and other classes. This newsletter will provide you with a few quick updates. We know you get a lot of emails, and soon we will reach out every other week instead of every week.

Diagnostic Assessments

This is the time of year when we like to see what our students need. Therefore, your children will be taking some diagnostic assessments in Writing (Kindergarten through 6th grade), English Language Arts (1st - 6th), and Math (1st - 6th). Depending on the age of the student, these assessments may be given online or on paper. Since these assessments are diagnostic and will be used to form instruction and will NOT be used for a grade or score, we ask the following:

• Do not help your child with the assessment. This includes previewing the assessment, making corrections, or aiding them in any way.

• Follow the directions of the teacher for pick up and drop off of paper testing materials.

• If you have twins, have them sit away from one another or with a divider between them.

• Make certain that your children have their cameras turned on during the assessments.

Exciting news! In an effort to provide increased access to programs and resources that improve the trajectory of our students’ lives, LCUSD is preparing to launch Peachjar. This new platform will enable us to send important school and approved after school flyers to parents digitally, saving our schools time, money, and paper.

School-approved digital flyers will be sent to your email inbox where you can easily click to sign up for events and programs.

No action is required to begin receiving this communication from your school. You’ll receive a welcome email from Peachjar that includes a username and password. You don’t need to log in to receive or view school flyers, but you can log in to adjust your delivery preferences.

To ensure you don’t miss notifications, we suggest you add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts and click “always display images” when you receive your first email.

This system is used exclusively for the distribution of school-approved flyers only. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose. Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure parents are well informed about school programs, activities, and events!
