Author and Storyteller Bil Lepp to Visit November 1
We are pleased to announce that Bil Lepp will be visiting our school on Friday, November 1, 2019. Mr. Lepp will be giving his storytelling presentations to all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade and will meet with fourth and fifth grades students in their homerooms.
Bil Lepp was awarded the 2018 Vandalia Award, West Virginia’s highest folk art award. After winning the West Virginia Liar Contest five times in the 1990’s, Mr. Lepp is now a nationally recognized storyteller and travels extensively each year to storytelling festivals such as the National Storytelling Festival and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. He has appeared on Comedy Central’s Hudson Stage and has been a featured artist and host of West Virginia Public Radio’s Mountain Stage.
In addition to his storytelling, Bil Lepp has written seven books and recorded sixteen audio collections. His children’s book The King of Little Things was awarded the PEN Steven Kroll Award for Picture Book Writing, the Parent’s Choice Gold Award, the Zena Sutherland Award for Children’s Literature, and was chosen to be West Virginia’s book at the National Book Festival in 2014. The book received positive reviews from the Kirkus Starred Review, the School Library Journal, the Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly. His most recent children’s book, The Princess and the Pickup Truck, is a 2019 National Parenting Product Awards Winner. To date, Bil Lepp has won nine Parent’s Choice Foundation awards for his books and recordings.
We are excited to welcome to Mr. Lepp to Mason-Dixon and hope that your student enjoys his hilarious stories about growing up and living in West Virginia. A special thank you to Mrs. Musgrave for arranging this opportunity for our students!
