Wynford Elementary Newsletter
February--2020
From the Desk of Mrs. Ratliff
As many of you know, illness has been running rampant in the district. Several fliers have been sent home about how to keep your students from getting sick and when to keep them home from school. It would take 30% of the school population to be absent in order to consider closing the school. We appreciate that you keep students home when they are sick, and they are excused as long as you call the office.
Conferences are in February, information for the online sign up will be sent home soon. We look forward to meeting with you, please take time to make an appointment with your child's teacher!
Students have been getting monthly Leadership Logs to fill out. Each student who turns it in will get a spirit stick and the chance to win additional prizes. The first one was sent home over the holidays and 167 students turned their's in, with kindergartners turning in the most. January's Leadership Log is due to the school by this Friday, February 7th. Throughout the year we will track how many are turned in, always hoping to get more turned in each month. The winning grade level will win a final prize. The goal of the Leadership Logs is to have students use the 7 Habits at home and help you, as families, use them, too!
Please contact us with any questions or concerns!

The Good News Club, sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship of Morrow-Ashland-Richland-Crawford-Knox counties, is being conducted by our art teacher Doug Lillo and our reading intervention teacher Lynne Fisher after school every Monday! A blue permission slip came home for you to grant permission for your child to attend from after school until 4:45, when they are picked up at the flagpole.
Good News Club includes: Bible lessons, singing, verse memorization and other activities. A snack will be provided after school.
If you have questions, please contact Amy Taylor-Sheldon or Doug Lillo at school.
We hope to see you next Monday!

7 Habits Review--Habit 4--Think Win-Win
Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing--that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it's not fair, and I'm going to make sure you don't get anymore. We all play the game, but how much fun is it really.
Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!
A person or organization that approaches conflicts with a win-win attitude possesses three vital character traits:
- Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments
- Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others
- Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone

Without shoes we are vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death.
Since children’s feet grow so quickly, they often outgrow donated shoes within a year
