Dr. Silverman discussed the designations of D34 schools, including the "underperforming" designation of Springman. (An underperforming school is one in which one or more student groups is performing at or below the level of "all students" group in the lowest performing 5% of schools.) He said that the District sees the designation as a call to action.
He said that he, Dr. Delli, and Director of EL Raquel Kim have been reviewing improvement plans. The state issued grants to both Attea and Springman to provide targeted strategies. The District will use those funds to provide professional development and program monitoring. The District had already taken steps to improve supports for EL students, and to put into place actions and new programs to positively impact all students.
