Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 19th July 2019
The Lion King
A wild end of year performance!
The Lion King
Goodbye to Mrs Crowley
The children shared their thoughts about Mrs Crowley:
'She is always helpful.'
'Mrs Crowley is always generous and she cares about everyone.'
'She has looked after us and is always there.'
'Mrs Crowley works so hard and helps us all.'
She is the best dinner lady in the universe, she is awesome and glorious!'
We wish Mrs Crowley all the best for the future.
Farewell Miss Stocks
We would like to say a huge thank you and fond farewell to Miss Stocks who leaves the school to move on to a new teaching post at Ashville School in Harrogate. She has worked so hard during her time at Cathedral School, putting the children first and ensuring that they encounter exciting learning opportunities. She has been a great member of our school team and she will be missed.
The children commented on her sunny, kind and helpful approach and that have appreciated the extra care that she has given to all the children in her class.
End of year message from Mr Holmes
Recently, children in Year 2 and Year 3 ran their market stall in the centre of Ripon and we received a lot of feedback about the politeness of the children. But what was most encouraging was how many members of the public commented on how happy our children are. It is really pleasing to see how much the children enjoy all aspects of their learning, as was seen in our recent production, and it is lovey to be, as one child said to me, 'part of a big family.'
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends of the school. I have worked in many settings and have never encountered such a fantastically well organised group! Their sterling work has raised a significant amount of money for the children, enabling us to provide Forest Schools and increase our bank of Ipads. THANK YOU!
Finally I would like to say thank you and a fond farewell to our Year 6 pupils. I have enjoyed getting to know you and have appreciated all the support and help that you have given to me in helping me find my feet. All the best in your new schools!
Have a wonderful, restful summer break.
Steven Holmes
End of Year Message from the Chair of Governors
It seems appropriate at the end of a long, hard working year that the governors thank everyone concerned for their contribution.
We pride ourselves at Cathedral Primary School on being a family and every member of that family has worked hard to make our wonderful school the happy, successful place it has become.
Particular thanks to Mr Holmes who has completed his first year with us and is still smiling! Appointing a new headteacher is probably the most difficult decision any governing body has to make and we are blessed in our choice. Standards have risen and we are confident that we are on track to continue to make good progress next year.
We cannot be a successful school without a great deal of hard work from our staff. Teachers and teaching assistants have excelled themselves this year and we are truly grateful. Thanks also to the ancillary staff who maintain the well oiled machine that is the school office, those who prepare and supervise our excellent school meals and those who keep our lovely building sparkling.
We would not be a school at all without our fabulous families. Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us and for supporting us in countless ways.
We wish you all a restful break and look forward to seeing you in September, suitably refreshed and ready to live out our vision “aspiring, flourishing and loving”.

Reading Leaders
Well done, Isabelle and Freddie, our latest Reading Leaders.
The Secret Mermaid – Turtle Trouble by Sue Mongredien
This story is about a girl called Molly and her mermaid friends Shanti, Phoebe, Eloise, Iona, Ashia, Leila and Queen Luna. They live in the Undersea Kingdom except Molly, she is one of the many Secret Mermaids. I had fun reading their adventures whilst they tried to defeat the Evil Dark Queen Carlotta and save turtles.
It is an adventure and fantasy story and is great for children of 4 to 10 years of age. I especially liked the different personalities of the characters. Shanti is my favourite character because she is funny and looks after the turtles.
Isabelle, Year 4
Solomon Crocodile by Catherine Rayner
Solomon is a crocodile that nobody likes. This is because he always frightens the animals around him and the animals really don't like him. Solomon doesn't know that he frightens them, he just wants to play. When he tries to play with Hippo, Hippo roars, 'You're nothing but trouble!' Solomon feels sad because no one wants to play. Then he hears a noise coming from a bush all of the animals run away. But it was not Solomon, it was something else. Out of the bush came another crocodile! Now Solomon had a friend and some one to play with.
