After school clubs
One big change will be how we handle sign-ups. If the number of students interested in participating exceeds the club enrollment capacity, club participants will be drawn through a random lottery drawing. All others will be on a waitlist. As the year goes on preference will be given to students who have not been in a club. For example, let’s say that two students both want to be in the Spanish Club. Student A has been in Dance Club and Yoga Club and Student B has not been in any clubs, Student B would be selected first for Spanish Club. The school will keep a record of club participants so we can try to provide equal opportunities for all students.
Once your child has been notified of being on a club roster there is a one-time club fee of $10.00, which covers all clubs your child participates in during the school year. You can pay this on Family Access.
ALICE Safety Drill
As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, today we conducted an ALICE safety drill. The Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD) follows a safety protocol called ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). This training encourages staff and students to respond to an unsafe person based on the situation, rather than rely on centralized instructions in dynamic times of crisis.
Before the drill with students was held, teachers had age-appropriate discussions on:
- what will take place during the training
- how to calmly complete the exercise
- what materials students may need to have with them
- the expectations for remaining orderly throughout the drill
Most importantly, know we use the language of "unsafe person" when communicating during the drill. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of our students and staff while taking a proactive approach if an unsafe person were to enter any of our district buildings.
