From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Masconomet Middle School Families,
At the end of this week's Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to give a big shout out to our faculty and staff. They have done an incredible job this year, shifting between multiple learning modes and rising to the challenge each and every time. I know how grateful I am for all of their hard work this year, and I truly appreciate all of their efforts. Please join me in thanking them for all of their efforts this year. Please see below for some important updates.
Upcoming Calendar Dates:
• May 17- Delayed Opening
• May 31- No School- Memorial Day
IMPORTANT: It is mandatory for all students to bring in their Masco Chromebook for testing, if they signed one out. For students that have not signed out a device and are BYOD for daily learning, a Masco device will be provided during MCAS testing.
Testing will take place on May 19, 20, 25, 26 and June 2. Please see the schedule below. The 7th grade test is two parts, one Math and one ELA. The 8th grade test is three parts: Math, ELA and Science. Information about remote testing was sent today to those families only.
The Project 351 Ambassadors and Student Council are sponsoring a clothing drive to collect new and like-new clothing from May 10- May 21. Boxes are located by the main entrances and they are collecting all types of clothing plus face masks, new school supplies, children's books and diapers. Please consider donating!
Drop-off and Pick-up
Morning drop-off seemed to improve a bit as the week progressed, but I anticipate that this will be the reality for the remainder of the year. The same goes for pick-up. Please allow for extra time or have your child ride the bus!
8th Grade Moving On Ceremony
We are pleased to announce that we will hold the 8th Grade Moving On Ceremony for students and staff only in the field house on Monday, June 21st. The event will be live streamed via Boxford Cable TV for friends and family to see. Due to the current state guidelines regarding the size of outdoor and indoor gatherings and associated logistical challenges, we have opted for this type of ceremony. Whereas last year we could only produce a virtual Moving On, we are excited to bring the event back this year in a revised format. We are happy to be able to honor our 8th grade class and see them off to the high school. Again, please note that this event is not open to the public and will be live streamed for all to see.
Have a good weekend,
Philip B. McManus, Ed.D.
