Together We Can Achieve The Extraordinary

What Did Week Five of Remote Learning Look Like?

Hello Families,

We hope you are all well and safe at home. We have just ended our fifth week of remote learning, but it has been six weeks since we were last together at PS 88Q. Not just PS 88Q, but our whole world has had to think of ways to be together without "being together". This week the community did an amazing job making us feel together. Whether it was celebrating Earth Day by wearing blue and green, or celebrating "Take Your Child To Work Day" we didn't let something like location ruin our spirit. We celebrated our fabulous secretaries, Ms. Williams, Ms. Heinz, and Ms. Guardi for Secretaries Week. They miss you all so much. We witnessed your amazing talents in sculpture with Ms. Fogarty, your math games, your challenges from Ms. Corniel and Mr. Tripotseris and also your cooking! There are so many amazing things going on all day, every day. I love meeting with all of the families, and getting to hear your feedback. This week we launched our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook). One of the most important things is communication, and especially during this time. There is so much to celebrate at PS 88Q everyday, and sharing it with the community lets us know that we are all indeed in this together. Here is our week in review!

What to Expect in Week 6

As we close out the month of April, it seems as if everyone is finding "their groove". Balancing home life, work life and school life for our families is not easy, and we want you to know we are here for EVERYTHING!! Our first priority is always and will always be each students social emotional level. It is very easy to feel sad, missing all of the things they are used to doing and people they are used to seeing. The picture below was shared by one of our teachers, and it is completely true. This is an abnormal time, and for kids it is scary. They are trying to balance it all as well. If you see your child struggling, always reach out to us. There are many places for them to connect to everyone! Our amazing school aides have a space called the Lunchroom, Ms. Ramos has a classroom, I do morning announcements live everyday at 9:00am, Mr. Dumont has live sessions, and the teachers go live daily.

This week, on April 30th, it is Poem in Your Pocket Day! Please think of a poem you love and how you will share it!

Students have been working on the I-Ready Program since September, and to continue where they were while in school, we are continuing with it. There is nothing to submit, nothing to upload, just log on like they always did. Each lesson is specific to each child, so it continues to be differentiated for every student. This week the NYC DOE will be releasing a citywide grading policy for students. We are aware of the abnormal circumstances, but we want to ensure your child continues in their studies. Any questions on I-Ready, always reach out to me!

See you at Coffee!!
