Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that Halloween is next Tuesday! We are looking forward to this day of creativity, collaboration, and fun. School is not only a place to learn academics, but also a place where we build strong community. We look forward to celebrating Veterans Day on November 10th. Please invite all veterans that you know to drive through at 2:15. Our students will be lining the sidewalks to wave and say thank you to our Veterans. We are Avery-Parsons Proud!

Parents/guardians are welcome to help students with costumes at 2:00pm (normal school clothes during the day and ensure that all costumes follow school dress code requirements). Reminder: all adults entering the building are required to pass a background check in the front office prior to entering. You can do this before Halloween to speed up the process!

Our first family night of the year is a Family Movie Night on Friday, November 3! Bring your sleeping bags, chairs, and blankets, and join us in the Avery-Parsons gym at 6:00pm for a family showing of "Toy Story". Adult supervision of children is required for the duration of the event. Popcorn will be provided.
If your student is in the Title I/WIN program, there is a short Parent Meeting at 6:00pm in the library. Drop off your students in the movie in order to attend the meeting and then join them!

Attendance Code Clarification
Starting this year, you will see an absence type called Verified Absence. It will be reflected as “unexcused” in Infinite Campus. This may be confusing since you have called into school. For state attendance coding purposes only, absences which are reported, but the student is not reported to be ill or at an appointment, it is classified as unexcused. We respect your right to privacy to not provide details when your student is absent from school; however, without a reason, we are unable to classify it in a way that the state deems to be an excused absence. All that being said, the school does not look at these absences any differently from one another until they become excessive absences. This is truly for state attendance coding purposes only.
Pursuant to Colorado truancy laws, the maximum number of days a parent may excuse/verify a student’s absence per school year is 16 days—about 10% of the school year. After that time, only doctor/dentist/ortho notes, court dates, school/sports activities may be excused.
