The abacus was one of the earliest computing devices which first appeared in 2700-2300 BC. Invented by the Sumerians who were one of the earliest urban societies to emerge with the world, in the Southern Mesopotamia more than 5,000 years ago. The abacus is an oblong frame with rows of wires or grooves along which beads are slid, used for calculating. The abacus has evolved into the current day computers and calculators.
