Starting A New Year in Canvas
July 2017
My Course is Blank - Now What?
The following guide and screencast shows users how to import all or some of their content into the new course.
Finding new courses
A common question for teachers at the start of the year is, "Where is my new course?" Although it may seem a course is not generated or made available, the issue for users is often that the course is not made a "favorite" course, so it does not show up in the course list.
To select your favorite, use the following guide find courses and add them to your course list.
Student Enroll-ments
If there is an issue with a student enrollment, emailHelpDesk@iusd.org with the name of the student that is not correctly enrolled, along with the date, if known, the correction was made to Aeries.

Posting To Discussions
Requiring that students post prior to seeing other responses is often used to ensure that students are posting original content to discussions. Using this feature is also a best practice, as this step ensures that only students, and not parent observers, are able to participate in and view student responses.
How can I require students to post to a Discussion before they see replies?
Discussions in Cross-listed Courses
To use this feature, teachers will need to use a graded discussion. If the discussion is not for points, just set the points possible to zero.
How do I assign a Graded Discussion to an individual student or course section?
Turn off comments
Comments on announcement can be seen by all users in a course. Although enabling the feature that requires students to post before seeing can be applied to announcements, this could create a lot of posts only visible to those who posted. It can be used, but is not recommended.
There is no way to associate an announcement to a course section in cross listed courses. Turning off announcement comments prevents parents from reading the comments of other students, as well as students in other courses, and is most likely the best solution.
