Reflection from December 19, 2017
From the Nurse: Mrs. Collins
As we enter into the winter months, it is a great time to remind our school community of the measures we take to keep students healthy and prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
We reinforce frequent hand washing with our students and coughing/sneezing into a tissue or their sleeve (not their hands).
In addition, we refer to the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) recommendations when determining the need to send a student home from school.
*For example, students are to be fever-free and free of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medication before returning to school.
If your student is sick, please keep them home so as not to spread illness.
Influenza (the flu) is usually seen more in the winter months. Some signs and symptoms of the flu are as follows:
*Severe aches in muscles or joints, weakness or extreme fatigue, sore
throat, dry cough, headache or fever. Please see your doctor if you are
experiencing any of these symptoms.
PARENTS OF 6th GRADE STUDENTS: It is required for each incoming 7th grade student to have their Tdap immunization. Now is a good time to inquire with your child’s doctor if they’ve had this vaccine already. If they have not, Winter Break or Spring Break are a great time to make that appointment to get student’s immunizations up to date. Your 6th grader will need to present proof of this immunization before starting 7th grade next year. Please contact the nurse with questions.
