Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held October 11 and 12th. Classroom teachers have sent a Sign Up Genius to all families to sign up for a time. This is a great opportunity to find out how your child's education is going and how you can help them learn and grow.
A note from our PTA for conferences:
Let's show our Prospect Staff some love!
Our teachers will be staying late to conduct conferences on Wednesday, October 11th and the Prospect PTA would love your help with providing dinner for them. Please review the link below to help sponsor a meal.
Thank you for your support!

Checking Your Child's Grades and Progress
Interested in seeing your child's grades and progress toward meeting standards in reading, writing, math, and more? Log into PowerSchool and click the Standards and Grades tab anytime!
As you may know, West Ada elementary schools use standards-referenced instruction and scoring to help determine and report if students have learned key skills/knowledge for a content area (i.e., math, reading, science, music, etc).
- Standards-referenced instruction focuses teaching and learning on the priority standards, which are the key skills/knowledge for a content area (i.e., math, reading, science, music, etc).
- Goal is to provide teacher, student, and parent with accurate feedback on where the student is right now in relation to mastering the standard, skill, or learning target. The student is encouraged to show improved learning over time.
- Proficiency Scales are used to determine where student is in relation to mastery of the priority standard.
- Grades are not averages; instead, teachers assess proficiency at every level of learning. A student may get every item correct on an assignment or assessment and receive a score of '2' if the items measure only level 2.0 skills, or if student is only demonstrating level 2.0 proficiency on a particular standard.
Student Arrivals
It is imperative that students do NOT arrive early. We do not have coverage for student supervision before arrival time. The doors will not be open until the posted arrival times. Please communicate with your students, especially if they walk or ride their bike to school.
M, T, Th, F:
- Arrival time 8:50
- Start time 9:05
Late-Start Collaboration Wednesday:
- Arrival time 9:05
- Start time 9:20
Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
Subway Day - October 19th
We are excited to have another Subway Day with our families! Everyone is invited to enjoy lunch with your student (even if you didn't order Subway), weather permtting. Please read the following information carefully so that you know the procedures for enjoying lunch with your children.
Lunch times are as follows:
K: 11:55
1st: 12:00
2nd: 12:10
3rd: 12:15
4th: 12:30
5th: 12:35
Please enter through the front office. You will not need to check in because this is a school event. Please wait in the foyer area for your student's class to come for lunch. When they come you may take your student and exit the doors at the end of the foyer. Find a spot on our grassy area and enjoy your lunch. Seating is not provided. Please bring a chair or blanket to enjoy lunch picnic style. All families need to remain on the grass area to eat and enjoy their lunch with their child. For safety reasons, we ask that you not engage in recess activities with the children.
If you have not arrived when your child comes to lunch, they will be seated in the cafeteria. Students will NOT be allowed to go outside to eat without their parent. If you arrive late, come to the cafeteria doors and a staff member will direct you to your student. Please do not contact them on their personal device. This causes confusion and makes it difficult for staff and students. For those families who have students in multiple grades, you will need to come to the foyer for each student at their scheduled lunch times.
Please help your student return to class ON TIME so that they do not miss instructional time in their classroom.
End-of-Recess:
K: 12:35
1st: 12:40
2nd: 12:50
3rd: 12:55
4th: 1:10
5th: 1:15
Thank you for your help in keeping this event safe and successful!
Learner Dispositions
Every Monday morning our students are spending time learning about our Learner Dispositions. We discuss a topic each week for students to focus on. When a teacher observes a student demonstrating a specific disposition, they earn a Prospect Pride Ticket. Each morning on the announcements, we recognize several students who have earned a ticket. They get to come to the office and grab their Pride Ticket and a pencil for their hard work. Ask your student(s) about their favorite Learner Disposition and how they utilize it in class.
These are the Learner Dispositions we've learned so far this year:
Resilience
Synonyms: Persevere, Determined
*I am determined to reach my learning goals even when it's hard.
*I see mistakes as opportunities to learn.
*I can be flexible and won't quit.
Ownership
Synonyms: Self-directed, Responsible, Initiative
*I am in charge of my own learning by being ready and willing to learn.
*I am responsible for my successes and failures.
*I have learning strategies I can choose from.
Engagement
Synonyms: Attentive, Active Learner
*I am motivated to learn.
*I actively listen and participate in my learning.
*I can work independently or as part of a team.
Thank you from the PTA
THANK YOU to all our Prospect families and friends for making this year's Fun Run a success!
