Dress Code Reminder and Student Roundtable Discussions

A student’s dress can positively or negatively impact the climate of a classroom and/or a school. Now that the weather is getting warmer, please be mindful of the length of shorts/skirts and the width of sleeves. The image below offers guidance for our school's expectations.
Big picture
A group of 8th grade students have advocated for a collaborative approach to review our dress code policies and how we address them at Peachtree. I met with these students this week and have asked them to develop a team (2 students from each grade level). This group will meet with our leadership team to offer suggestions and have a roundtable discussion on proposed changes. We will also meet with our parent group, the Principal Advisory Council (PAC). Any updates to our school's dress code will be shared with our families in our weekly newsletter.

Exceptional Children's Week - March 7-11th

Please join us and DCSD in celebrating Exceptional Children's Week, March 7-11, 2022. Each year, the District collaborates with the Council for Exceptional Children, a professional organization that promotes the advancement and education of all exceptional persons, to promote awareness and increase knowledge of the accomplishments of exceptional students and of the programs and services provided to students with exceptional needs. This year's theme is "Celebrating the Past, Committed to the Future: Cheers to 100 Years"! According to the Council for Exceptional Children, special education focuses on providing individualized education, related services, and specialized accommodations so that students with special needs make great strides, prepare for transition, and as a result, achieve academic and life-long personal success and independence.

At Peachtree this week, we began our Best Buddies Club. The program's main purpose is to promote one-on-one friendships between students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those without a disability. Best Buddies is the world's largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD. It is an international movement that has spread to over 54 countries world wide and we are excited to contribute to that movement at Peachtree.

Please take this opportunity to honor children and youth with exceptionalities and the professionals who serve them! DCSD has put together information (below) for our schools, which we are excited to participate in. More information can be found at Exceptional Children's Week. Thank you for your continued support.
