What does it mean when my child is DIBEL'd?

Three times a year all of our students participate in the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) benchmark screening in the fall, winter & spring. Our winter date is Monday, January 7. This information is used by teachers to make decisions about the growth of our students and plan for their instruction.

What is the January Theme Day?

Beach Day is January 8 Theme Day as selected by the staff. We all need a little fun in the sun this month. Please be sure that students have warm apparel for recess, but life’s a beach at school on January 8.

When do students have indoor recess/mornings?

To determine whether or not children are outside, we use this chart as a guideline. When the temperature gets close to the second blue field, we strongly consider keeping students indoors.

It is important that you send your child to school dressed to be outside for 20 minutes of recess.

Must haves

  1. Hats
  2. Gloves
  3. Winter jacket
  4. Boots

Consider
  1. Snow pants
  2. Scarf
  3. Face mask
  4. Other items your child may need to stay warm

When every child at Franklin has a hat, a pair of gloves, a winter coat and a pair of boots, that's 6 items per child times 465 children for a total of 2,790 pieces of clothing. Chances are high that things will get dropped, misplaced or mixed up with other students' clothing. Labeling your child's clothing helps greatly.
