Connecting to the prairie

Visiting the prairie really made me think about what it was like to be Jim when he first went to live with his grandparents. He had never seen anything like it before, because he had lived in the city with his parents. When we went out to the prairie it wasn't what I was used to seeing everyday. I live in the country but it's not grasslands all over like the prairie was. I live about three miles away from a grassland I drive by everyday and it's reserved, but I never thought anything of it. Every time I drive by it I think it is very beautiful, the way the grass flows in the wind and the sun shines on it. I wish more of our land was like this, but I also like the city living ways.

When Jim lived with his grandparents it was a different time and way of doing things. We no longer have to struggle through harsh weather on farms as they used too. You might still have to have a few jobs to make sure everything is ready for the different weather, but its not to the extreme because of technology we have today."We were talking about what it was like to spend ones childhood in little towns like these, buried in what and corn, under stimulating extremes of climate:.....blustery winters with little snow, when the whole country is tripped bare and grey as sheet-iron"

I think it's fantastic the experience of looking for plants and discovering new things outside of our regular school life.
