Gators of the Week: RBHS Coding Club Wins Award
Code day is a 24 hour event hosted at USC where aspiring high school and college coders go to form teams and use their skills to make a game. The games are then judged and ranked by professional programmers on various categories. On February 18-19, River Bluff students John Nickles, Alex Pendris, Daythyn Price, and Colin Smith attended this event and created a game called The Labyrinth.
The Labyrinth is a text based puzzle/story adventure with a dystopian background. It took the entire 24 hours for them to program the game with over 1000 lines of code. At the end of the day, their hard work paid off and they won the top overall game award. Daythyn commented on the event saying, "We are very excited about this achievement and plan on expanding the game further and adding even more content to it!"

Aaron Viazanko wins Second Place!
We have waited about 6 months to see who won the SC Young Film Makers Project. We had four of our students get in the top 10 and Aaron Viazanko was selected last spring as a top 5 finisher in the Charleston Film Festival Young Filmmakers project.
This week he found out he received 2nd place! Very excited for our Media Technology students! Aaron earned $300 with his 2nd place finish.
New Counseling and Advisement Assignments for Students
New Counselors for Students
Now that we’ve made it through the first ten days of school, and the majority of our students have learned the best routes to their classes and the most productive ILT areas, we want to communicate a transition in Counseling and Advisement. Since everything has settled down and the schedule change timeframe has ended, we are excited to release the counselor assignments for this school year.
The Counseling & Advisement team is working towards a more intentionally focused program to provide students with the best support. Rather than counselors having students in all grade levels (9-12), we are realigning to be able to more appropriately serve students’ transitional needs at the different levels. This realignment will also more closely mirror our CREW design allowing students to stay with their school counselor their 9th and 10th grade years and then have another counselor their 11th and 12th grade years.
Effective Monday, August 29th, counseling assignments will be as follows:
Traveling students (all students who attend LTC or other high schools)
o Marci Newman (Director) mnewman2@lexington1.net
Students in their 1st or 2nd year of high school (typically 9th & 10th graders)
