The Family Eagle
4/23/23
As we head into the last week in April, we are getting very excited about all the amazing experiences left this year! Next week students will have an Earth Day Spirit Week (details below). We are also doing our first Read-A-Thon here at Memorial staring May 1st. Click on the link below and register your child today and help us encourage them to log reading minutes outside the school day. We are embracing the "reading challenge" sent to us from the other elementary schools in D146, and we are hoping to enjoy some extra reading starting May 1st . A flyer will be sent home tomorrow with more details!
Tuesday, May 9th -come continue our 60th Birthday celebration with our "Trip Through Time." Students have been working all year researching different decades and creating decade themed art - all of this will be displayed in a fun, time-warp theme that night - don't miss it! PTA will be hosting an event in our West Parking Lot that night and Mr. Trsar will be grilling hot dogs - PTA will be sending a food RSVP soon!
ExploreMore - we still need volunteers for this June 2nd event. We need am only, pm only, and all day volunteers still. Click below to sign up - you won't regret it - it is one of the best days of the year but it takes a lot of people to make it great for the kids - so please consider volunteering.
Below you will also see our March "Ownership Key" winners and pictures from the 5th Grade Pancake building - thank you to everyone who ordered pancakes - we know you enjoyed them!
As always, please reach out with anything, and thank you for being our partners in your child's education!
Sincerely,
Mr. Trsar
Memorial School's 2023 Read-a-thon is coming soon!!
Read-a-thons are designed to get your child(ren) excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
The Memorial Read-a-thon will being on Monday, May 1.
A Read-A-Thon Flyer with details and instructions about how to activate your child(ren)'s personal page will be sent home Monday 4/24). This is where you will be able to view and record their progress!
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/PrRpts/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-a-thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
We hope EVERYONE participates!!
All funds raised will support Memorial student experiences! We are looking at additional assemblies, field trips, an outdoor sensory path, and other ways to support our students having even more special, memorable experiences here at Memorial.
Thanks so much for your support!

Pancakes for Pines and Picnic
Memorial 5th Graders raised money for their White Pines Overnight Field Trip and 5th Grade Picnic during their “Pancakes for Pines and Picnic” fundraiser. Students were able to sell over 200 pancake orders and then all participated in building the pancake bags. They measured out the flour, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder after creating all the bags. Most impressively, they did a great job cleaning up all the flour that mysteriously made its way onto our clothes and the floor :)
Thank you to all those who ordered and supported - we know the pancakes were delicious!
Special Shout Out to 5th Grader Melanie Ojeda, winner of our first SYRUP award, for selling the most bags of pancakes (32 bags!)
