Welcome FALL!
I am always excited with the change in weather as it means we are truly moving into our new school year. Mrs. Cottle and I are pleased with how well our students, staff, and families are adjusting to the routines of school.
This year, we are focusing on “on-time” arrival. This means that students are at school, in the gym, at 8:50AM. Children are allowed on campus starting at 8:40AM and go directly to the gym where they are supervised. We start our day promptly at 8:50AM in this location where we have a quick morning WELCOME prior to transitioning to classrooms. Our WELCOME Assembly allows students to connect with classmates and teachers. It establishes a community of learning as morning announcements are quickly shared.
Thank you for your continued cooperation by sending written notes or calling about changes to home transportation prior to 3:00pm. This allows our office staff to relay the information to your child’s teacher in a prompt manner.
We also appreciate your checking-in at the front office. Our safety procedures are to sign-in at the front office and wear a visitor’s sticker before going beyond the office area. Coming to the office when you need to sign your child out of the building also ensures your child has left with the appropriate adult. Each child’s safety is first and foremost on our minds at Orting Primary School.
Please make sure you have read the Student/Family Handbook with your child. It is a helpful way to understand the guidelines at OPS.
Yours in Partnership,
Principal Couch
Perfectly Punctual!
Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year? That’s just 18 days or 2 to 3 days a month. And that can add up before you know it. Research shows us that absences add up. That’s as true for kindergartners as it is for 12th graders. It’s as true for excused absences as it is for skipping school. We know there will be days when your child will miss school, especially when they’re sick. But we know that nationwide, as many as 7.5 million students miss 10 percent of the school year? That’s 135 million days of missed school – and missed opportunities. And research shows us it also marks the point when students start to fall behind academically because they have missed too many days.
So let’s work together as a community – school, families, students, and teachers – to get all kids to school – on time, every day.Mobile Community Services Office is Coming

Greetings from the Music Classroom
It has been a joy to meet my students and make music. We are getting to know each other and practice rules/ expectations in the classroom. We are excited to partner with families in student learning and keep a two- way communication of how your child is doing in school. We sing in music every day connecting fall themes (Harvest) and upcoming holiday, (Veteran’s Day).
Our 3rd graders are preparing for their upcoming Veteran’s Day program on Thursday, November 8th at PtR, 7 p.m. (More info will be sent via email/letter.)
OPS will host a Veteran’s Assembly during the day on Friday, November 9th. Grades 1 and 3: 10:30-11:00 and Grades K & 2: 11:05-11:35. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
If you know a Veteran, please invite him or her to our OPS Day Assembly or evening program in November..
We look forward to honoring our Veterans through music.
Thank you,
Mrs. Dennett

October is Bully Prevention Month. We at Orting Primary School are committed to ensuring a safe and civil educational environment for all. This means an environment that is free from harassment, intimidation or bullying. Here are some tips to help:
RECOGNIZE:
Bullying is when someone continues to harm another either verbally or physically. Three things have to be present in order for a situation to be considered bullying. It has to be unfair and one-sided. Repetitive - Bullying happens when someone keeps hurting, frightening, threatening, or leaving someone out on purpose. Unfair means – not right, not fair, not equal. One-sided means – One person or group is trying to hurt another. Recognize Bullying.
REFUSE:
You can assist the student being bullied by standing up in a non-aggressive way. Ask the student being bullied to walk away with you. Tell the bully to stop. Have the crowd form a protective shield around the student being bullied and walk away. If you are friends with the bully, ask him to walk away with you. Refuse Bullying
REPORT:
Reporting is NOT tattling. By reporting bullying, you are keeping yourself or someone else safe. Bullying should be reported to an adult. This can be your teacher, school counselor, assistant principal, principal, parent, friend, or brother/sister. Reporting allows an adult to educate the individual who is demonstrating bullying behaviors while also supporting those being bothered by the individual. Report Bullying.
