Announcing
Our New Bedford Village Elementary School Principal
June 14, 2017
Dear BVES School Community,
Please join in wishing Congratulations to Ms. Gina Smith, the new BVES Principal, effective July 1, 2017! The Board of Education approved Mrs. Smith's appointment this evening.
Ms. Smith's appointment is the result of an in-depth interview process that involved a district-wide committee consisting of parents, support staff, teachers, and administrators. The committee conducted interviews with five qualified applicants. Two semi-finalists were selected and participated in a performance component; then they were interviewed by representatives from the administrative team. Ms. Smith emerged as the finalist in this interview process for her educational experience, and for her record as a thoughtful, collaborative leader who is a continual learner with a deep commitment to the students and community of Bedford Village Elementary School. Ms. Smith added, "Bedford Village Elementary School is truly an amazing school. I am honored to be selected as the new principal of a school made up of wonderful students, caring parents and a dedicated staff."
Some of you may know that Ms. Smith has been with the district since 2004. For the past 11 years, she has served as the Elementary Consulting Teacher (ECT) of Bedford Village Elementary School. She also served as the ECT of Bedford Hills Elementary School from 2004 to 2006. Ms. Smith has been a key leader and facilitator of professional development at BVES and has worked in partnership with other district leaders to create greater curricular consistency across the district’s elementary schools.
Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Aquinas College in Michigan; a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Manhattan College in New York; and a Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College, in Purchase. Ms. Smith holds New York State Permanent Certification in N, Kindergarten and Grades 1-6, Reading and Biology 7- 12, as well as New York State Certifications as a School Building Leader and School District Leader.
Please also join in wishing Mrs. Karen Eldon well as she enters into retirement from BCSD. Mrs. Eldon has had ten successful years as the Principal of Bedford Village Elementary School. It is with much appreciation and fondness that we wish and her family health and happiness.
In Service,
The Bedford Central School District Board of Education and
Dr. Christopher M. Manno, Superintendent of Schools
