2023 - The Year of the Rabbit!

We are excited to share that P.F. Chang's in Freehold will display some of our Kindergarten and First Grade students’ artwork in their restaurant for the Lunar New Year which begins on January 22nd. As a thank you, P.F. Chang's has shared free kid’s meal coupons with all of our Kindergarten and First Grade students! The coupons are valid from Sunday, January 22nd - February 5th, 2023 to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. All artwork will also be uploaded to Artsonia. Special thanks to our art teacher, Ms. Cook, who assisted our youngest artists!

Reminder - Early Dismissal Day Coming Soon!

Wednesday, January 25th is an early dismissal (12:10PM) day for our students due to scheduled professional development for our teaching staff.

Winter Weather

It is important your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and is prepared to play outside. Outdoor recess is an important and valuable part of our students’ day. Fresh air, exercise and time spent outdoors afford students a break from the structure of the classroom.

Cold weather clothing allows our students to enjoy being outdoors even when the temperature drops! Please talk to your child about the importance of wearing their jacket/coats outdoors. Thank you!

One District, One Book!

Our school is about to take part in a special, district-wide shared reading event and every West Freehold School family will receive a copy of the book The Wild Robot!

We know that a child’s positive relationship with literacy provides the basis for a lifetime of learning. This program supports reading together at home and learning together at school. Help us build our home - school connection by setting aside time each week to read aloud with your child.

The Wild Robot at West Freehold School

Take a look at West Freehold School's The Wild Robot Website for information about the book. Be on the lookout for more information as we kick off this special reading event on February 1st!

For Your Information

NWEA MAP Growth Assessment Continues...

The window for Winter administration of the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment continues into next week and runs through January 31st. Keep in mind that the testing window allows us to assess students within those dates. Students typically do not use more than a small portion of 2-3 school days depending on their grade level. More information about the MAP Growth assessment and information on resources for parents are available by accessing the Family Toolkit.

The West Freehold School PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) exists to support WFS students and teachers by building a strong school community, offer fun and unique programs both during school hours and outside of school hours, and volunteer opportunities inside and outside of the classroom.

Be sure to checkout the WFS PTO website for upcoming events!

Important Message From WFS School Nurse, Ms. DeVito

Cold and Flu Season has begun! To prevent the spread of colds and flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. In addition, we have had a number of pink-eye infections at West Freehold School. Our custodians have been kept busy with heavy duty daily cleaning in classrooms as well as our common areas but we need your help with being on the lookout for pink-eye symptoms at home. Thank you!

Reporting a Student Absence

It's that time of year! During the winter season we often see an increase in student absences. Please remember to report the absence to the WFS Main Office (732) 431-5101 by calling our attendance line. This allows us to accurately assess daily attendance and helps us assure all of our students have arrived safely to our building each day.

Next, in order to formally document the student absence and have it considered as an excused absence, a Parent Absence Form must be completed and submitted to the WFS Main Office. These forms are filed and stored as required by the state.

Thank you for your help and understanding!

Important Information About Bus Transportation

In an effort to keep parents/guardians informed of transportation delays to and from school, a "button" has been added to the school district website labeled "Bus Delays." Clicking that button will take parents/guardians to a webpage that lists any transportation delays for the day. Parents/guardians should visit this page prior to calling schools or transportation to inquire about any transportation delays.
