News To Know:
Welcome!
Hello and welcome to 2/3 HA Multiage!! I am so excited to begin another year of learning and fun with you. Newsletters like this one will be sent via email at the beginning of each week to help keep you informed of what's going on in our class and at Hershey. I hope you find it informative and helpful.
Holidays Celebrations
Not to be indelicate, but if anyone has any issues with the celebration of holidays in class, would you please let me know? We do some holiday crafts and celebrations around Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas (Santa/reindeer and parent gifts), and Valentine's Day. I am obviously unaware of your religious preferences, as I should be, and the LAST thing I want to do is offend anyone. Thank you for helping me be respectful of everyone.
**PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH ANY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION CONCERNS/RESTRICTIONS**
Curriculum Night --
I will be hosting a Curriculum Night to provide some information and answer any questions you may have about the 2/3 High Ability program and curriculum. Our Curriculum Night is Tuesday, Aug. 2nd from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. in our classroom at Hershey. If you are unable to make it, I have attached the slide show I will be using to the newsletter email and will also post on our class web page, and you can email any questions you might have. This night is for parents and kids should stay home if possible. 3rd grade parents -- you are welcome to attend, but there's nothing new from last year so you can opt out if you wish! Hope to see many of you here!
Wireless Computer Mouse
Students will be learning how to use the trackpad on their Chromebooks....a useful skill. However, if they would like to use a wireless mouse you may send one in. It should have fresh batteries and the small USB dongle that plugs into the computer. Students will be responsible for their own mice; please put names/initials on the mouse. Again, this is optional.
A Note About Homework
Each week I will send home an Assignment Sheet with things for students to do at home each night. Homework is organic, meaningful, practice-oriented, and includes things like math fact practice, play time, helping out at home, and nightly reading. Each week's spelling list will be on the back for review as needed. There is no need for this sheet to be returned to school. We use the honor system when it comes to homework -- I trust students to complete their daily tasks at home, just as they do at school.
Facebook and Insta!
Join us on Facebook and Instagram! I will post photos of your kids at work and play!!
I sent a FB invite to everyone and will resend another one this week, or you can try the link below to join. It is a private group not visible to the general public!

Snacks & Water Bottles & Birthday Treat Reminders
Students have the option to bring in a daily snack for themselves to be had in the morning. Appropriate snacks for school are healthy, small, and quick to eat with no preparation needed....fruit, pretzels, crackers, popcorn, etc. NO candy, cookies, cakes, or other sweets as a snack. Rule of thumb: if it makes a mess at home, it makes a mess here. Again, snacks are optional.
Water bottles are allowed in class. Water bottles must be the refillable kind with a lid that seals. Only water is allowed (no juice) and water bottles will be stowed when we are using our Chromebooks.
Birthday treats -- students are welcome to bring in a treat if they wish. Treats should be store-bought and easy to distribute and eat. Things like cookies, donuts, and small cupcakes are great. Please don't send in cake or cookie-cakes that I have to cut, thanks! We have 24 students in class.
Attendance Line and Dismissal Changes
If your child is going to be absent from school, the office asks you to please call the Hershey Attendance Line at 765-269-8342. Also, if there is a change in your child's dismissal, please call the Hershey Office directly before 2:30 at 765-269-8280 rather than emailing the teacher(s).....we don't always check our email and don't want to miss anything. Thanks!!
Web Page
You can find all sorts of stuff on our page, including a link to our Google Classrooms, spelling and vocabulary word lists, behavior and grading policies, our daily schedule, and a link to all of our newsletters. I would suggest you bookmark this page, as you and your child will use it often! For reference, this link will always be listed at the bottom of this newsletter and on any emails I send.
