  • Evaluate the pros & cons of relying on PPT for instruction
  • Identify resources to create lessons/activities that go beyond PPT
  • Read articles about use of PPT in the real world and transfer knowledge to classroom world
  • Collaborate and learn from peers strategies to help students develop social studies skills

Is PowerPoint our friend or foe?

  1. Read the NY Times Article from April 2010.
  2. Annotate the text in a way that allows you to answer the question with evidence & reasoning.
  3. Answer the question by discussing it with your tables (be sure to highlight your evidence).

Reflective Practicioner Exercise Time

  1. Think of the last lesson you did that relied on PowerPoint.
  2. Share that lesson with a partner.
  3. Brainstorm with your partner - how could you have done the lesson differently?
  4. Discuss & evaluate together - what would be the pros/cons (consequences) of choosing to do the lesson without PPT?
  5. How does PowerPoint fit into 21st Century Learning, College & Career Readiness?
