Woodbury Junior-Senior High Community Newsletter
May 1st Community Newsletter
Dear parents and guardians,
I can't believe it is May and the 4th marking period has already started! This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. The theme is "Woodbury Junior - Senior High School is SUPER because we have SUPERHEROES!" When we say Superheroes, we are talking about the wonderful teachers here! This week is set aside every year to honor our educators who have dedicated their professional lives to helping our scholars. Returning to teaching during a pandemic has not been easy but our teachers have reinvented what education looks like. The commitment to your students and the improvement of your craft, is amazing to see! Let us all take this time to pause and celebrate these wonderful people!
Last week we celebrated School Secretary Appreciation Day! Thank you to Ms. Cleminson, Ms. Reeves, Ms. Riveria, Ms. Hamiliton and Ms. Arno for everything you do behind the scenes to keep the school running!
Below you will find lists for students that made Honor Roll (All As & Bs) and Principal's List (All As) for the Junior and Senior High.
It is exceedingly hard to consistently turn in quality assignments over the many weeks of a marking period. Our courses are rigorous. Our teachers have high expectations for students. To see so many students on these lists is great! We know that parents and caregivers have contributed so much in setting parameters or helping to explain concepts to set the foundation for this success; kudos to all of you as well!
Please join me in congratulating these students on their standout achievements by sharing this good news with your friends and neighbors. We are all so proud of you!
Attendance Policy
In accordance with the Woodbury Junior - Senior High School Attendance policy, a secondary student will be present for one-hundred sixty-six (166) days to be awarded course credit regardless of the reason for the absence. However, absences for the observance of religious holidays, medical reasons and absences caused by a student’s suspension will be counted toward the one-hundred sixty-six (166) day total.
Please review the policy included in the Student Handbook for a more detailed explanation of the attendance policy. The handbook can be found on the school website: www.woodburysch.com.
Note: Students in danger of losing credit because of attendance can attend the remaining Saturday Attendance School and Thursday EAP programs to make up absences. These programs will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Please review the dates below. This will take place in the Gold Cafe.
Dress Code
With the weather warming, we are beginning to see dress code concerns. The dress code guidelines can be found in the student handbook on page 17. Please keep the following in mind when your student comes to school, as we want to work together to make sure all students are successful each day.
- No clothing that is suggestive, obscene, or offensive (alcohol, drugs, weapons, or words/phrases with double meanings).
- No students’ undergarments should be visible.
- The length of all students’ shorts/skirts should be at least mid-thigh.
- Midriffs should not be visible when standing or walking. Clothing should overlap when standing or walking.
- No pajamas
- No slides, slippers, or shoes without a back.
- No outerwear including hats, gloves, or sunglasses
Failure to comply with the dress code will be seen as insubordinate under the code of conduct and disciplinary action taken
