NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Kaya (Hello) Parents and Staff
SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY
Thank you to the many parents who recently completed the National Schools Improvement Partnership survey. This data, along with the feedback from students and staff will assist us in reviewing our processes and practices and provide valuable information for future planning. We expect to receive the final Report by the end of June.
LOCKDOWN
My apologies for not providing advanced notice of our lockdown drill that was held on Tuesday morning. The need to practise processes such as this was certainly brought to our attention by the horrific events at the Robb Elementary School in Texas, USA. We pray for the 19 beautiful children and their teachers who were so needlessly taken from their family and friends.
ASSEMBLY
I’ve noticed the Year 2P class practicing in the school hall over the past couple of weeks so, tomorrow, I’m very much looking forward to a sparkling performance outlining many of the great things that they have been doing in class.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all of the students from Years Three to Six who, yesterday, participated so enthusiastically in our Faction Cross Country at Tomato Lakes. Mr Webb will have all of the information about Champions and Shield recipients in his article in next week's newsletter. An absolute highlight for me, which demonstrated dedication, commitment and amazing courage was the performance of Year Six student and Captain of Presentation Faction, Emali Davies, who completed the course on crutches. What an inspiration!
Thank you to the parents and staff who assisted and, especially, Mr Webb for ensuring our Carnival was such a great success.
GRIP LEADERSHIP
Next Tuesday our Year Six Student Leaders will attend this Conference accompanied by Bro Stephen and Mr Webb. This is a great opportunity for the students to further develop their leadership skills and I look forward to hearing about what they have learnt when they return.
CYSTIC FIBROSIS
Please take the time to read the article below from the Emerson family who have a family member afflicted with this debilitating condition. There will be a stall at the school gate tomorrow morning, and I encourage you to support this very worthy cause.
PYJAMA DAY
PJ Day, one of the most eagerly anticipated days of the year, will be held on Thursday 9 June. Whist this day is always a lot of fun for all of us, it is also an opportunity for us to reflect upon those who are not as fortunate as us, having to sleep rough in vulnerable situations most nights. Everyone is invited to wear their pyjamas on the day with a gold coin donation, to support the homeless, appreciated. More details will be published closer to the date.
ADVANCED NOTICE
- Monday, 6 June, is a Public Holiday when we celebrate WA Day. Our OSHC will be closed on this day.
- Tuesday, 7 June, is a Professional Development Day for staff when we will be upskilling in Mathematics and Design and Technologies. Our OSHC will be open on this day.

YEAR 5 NEWS
It is Term Two already, and we hit the ground running with so many sensational activities and exciting content to learn! Our main focus in the past few weeks, has of course been NAPLAN, and we have also been learning about so many other aspects of the curriculum.
It’s been very interesting to research the continents of North and South America. We have been studying the climate, landforms, culture, people and countries of these two incredible places in the world.
Our classes have created excellent Powerpoint presentations focusing on a particular country within these regions and will perform an oral presentation in the next few weeks which we are all looking forward to.
We have written very interesting and detailed reports on an animal native to these regions and have learned about the diet, behaviours, adaptations and their habitats.
RELIGION
We have been looking at the Notre Dame School values of Justice, Integrity, Innovation, Compassion, Excellence and Courage and how we can apply them to our daily lives at home, at school and within our community.
ART
This term we have been studying the artworks of the great Salvador Dali. We have enjoyed working on self portraits with a Dali touch!! We created North and South American animal sketches inspired by Dali’s famous long legged elephant piece and brightened them up with pastels and dye. They look amazing on our windows with the natural light shining through!
