The Gazette
June 2015
Dear Parents,
Next year, we will be welcoming back about 8 children from our current class. We have been talking to them regularly about the importance of their role for next year, as rising pre-schoolers. They seem very excited about being a role model for the younger children who will be starting our class next September.
For all the children who are changing schools, we will miss you very much and hope to see you back at North Shore Montessori for special events or out in the community. We wish you all the best in your new schools!
We have had a fun filled year packed with new experiences, friendships, experiments, lessons, growth and laughter! We hope that everyone has a fantastic summer with family and friends. We look forward to seeing many of you again in September!
Life Cycles- Chicks, Butterflies and Honey Bees
We were thankful to receive 13 eggs from a North Shore Montessori family. During 21 days, your children learned a lot about how a fertilized egg becomes a chick. The children were fascinated and were eager to find out about the different stages of development of our chick embryos. Unfortunately, as most of you know, the eggs that were donated to us, were not fertilized. Thankfully, Catherine Fabian (Samuel's mother) came to the rescue and contacted Cornell Cooperative of Suffolk County. As Catherine used to work there, the center graciously, lent us 5 baby roosters! The children had a wonderful time observing and holding our guest chicks. Then, last friday we were fortunate to have more chicks come for a visit; Ryan Furhman's family, shared their chicks with us. The children were delighted! Our study of chicks was explored through literature, art and experiments.
