Happy Februrary
It's February and I can't say that I've given my winter coats a work out this season; which I guess is a good thing. If we are truly lucky we will have no more snow days, and the students will have a pretty lengthy summer. The "official" last day of school will not be announced until the APRIL Board of Education meeting. Once it is confirmed, we will announce it, and add it to our webpage.
We will be offering several different programs this summer for our students. There will be more detailed information coming out, but just a heads up that we will be partnering with the BCPL library again for 1 book / 1 summer, in addition to, offering tutoring opportunities. We're working on some other family game night events as well that would include everyone. Admittedly, this is selfish on my part, working all summer without the kids tends to be dismal.
Beginning to Prepare for 2016-2017 school year
I know what some of you are thinking! We're not even through this school year, but this is when the process begins believe it or not. We begin juggling two school years for preparation. There is 1 major component that I need your help with please- Getting the word out about enrollment!
For the last 2 years now we have had to add Kindergarten and 1st grade classes after school has already started. This is because we are allocated teachers based on how many kids are enrolled ( our numbers are looked at in March, and then revisited in the summer, and then not again until after Sept. 15th) We are experiencing very LATE enrollments, which makes it impossible to plan and hire for classrooms. Not to mention, puts everyone in a situation of reducing class sizes, after students have already started to build relationships with teachers.
Why is 1st grade such an issue? Many of our students are at private day cares that provide kindergarten instruction and then day care for the remaining day. This year alone we registered 30+ first graders we did not anticipate. Please spread the word to help us out.
You can register your child for the upcoming school year AT ANY TIME, but we will be kicking off kindergarten enrollment on March 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. You will need to bring several items, including your child, on this evening. More information can be found on our webpage, but I've also included the registration packet below.
PK Screening- Friday, February 19th from 9 to 3:00 pm at Ralph Rush Professional development center, Florence. Screening is for 3 year olds on or before Feb. 19th, 2016.
Involvement
I realize that if you or your child is not involved in a particular club or event that "knowing" what is happening tends to be a little difficult. You can find information about NH and on-goings in the district in several different ways: teacher newsletters (which you should be receiving monthly- in the least) our webpage, NH Facebook page, Boone County Schools webpage; NH PTA's webpage, and then there are always the "tweets" and "reminds" to keep you in the loop.
In the spot light....
