HOME OF THE "PROUD PATRIOTS"
The mission of Cedar Grove Elementary is to grow our students into respectful, curious and productive citizens.
Welcome March!
Read Across America Month Begins!
March is Women's History Month and it's also Read Across America month at Cedar Grove Elementary. All throughout the month, our students will participate in read-alouds and classroom discussions centered on SEL/Character Education themes. Each week, I will share those read-alouds with you and the guided questions that students discussed that week.
On March 2nd, we will celebrate Read Across America Day by dressing up like our favorite book character and classes will "buddy up" for a shared reading opportunity. To end our month-long celebration of reading, our students will attend an assembly on Friday, March 31st.
We hope families enjoy this month as much as our students and staff. For resources on how to cultivate strong readers at home, see the live links below:
Important Dates & Cafeteria Info...
As you know, from previous district and school communications, federal waivers for free meals expired in June 2022. All districts have been required to return to pre-pandemic operations for the 2022-23 school year. Meals free of charge will be available only to those students who qualify through Direct Certification, Categorical Eligibility, or the 2022-2023 Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. Please contact the main office if you need assistance with completing an application: 732.505.5830.
We encourage you to review the weekly menu with your child to determine what days (if any) they will purchase lunch. Our district is committed to ensuring the health of our students and we will never deny a student lunch if they report that they are hungry or have not brought a lunch from home. Responsible Risks
It's Okay to Fail Sometimes
To learn more about responsible risks or to help your child understand that it's okay to try and fail sometimes, please click on the live links below:
- Habits of Mind - Taking Responsible Risks
- Taking Responsible Risks (for kids)
- Making Mistakes and Failing is Okay (for kids)
- Succeed by Failing - Focus on engineering (for older kids)
It is always my hope that we all embrace the freedom to fail. When we accept that occasional failure is inevitable, it becomes a natural part of the learning process and allows us to keep going!
It's That Time of Year!
If you were to pop into our classrooms, the two most common questions you are likely to hear from our students are:
- Can I have a tissue?
- Can I have a pencil?
Thousands of pencils and tissues have been used this year, and we have thousands to go before June. To that end, both homeroom and special area teachers are welcoming any donations of pencils and tissues to their classrooms.
We appreciate your continued support!
