Coronado High School is excited to announce that we have shifted our specialty offering from engineering only, to being a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme. IBC is one of the programmes offered by International Baccalaureate that addresses the needs of students engaged in career-related education and leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships, or employment. Students electing to take part in IBC will still have access to the high quality academic courses offered at CHS, as well as all extracurricular activities. IBC Schools

IBC is currently offered at only 6 schools in the state of Texas. Once final approval is given by IB, Coronado High School will be the 7th school in the state to offer this high-quality, challenging, international education related to career studies.

IBC Curriculum

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-Related Programme (CP) is a three-part educational framework that consists of:


  • Courses from the IB's Diploma Programme (DP)
  • The CP core
  • Career-Related studies

Diploma Programme (DP) Courses

As part of the IBC requirements students will complete at least 2 DP courses at either a standard level (on-level course), or higher level (P-AP/AP course). The 2 DP courses must be taken in the junior & senior year at CHS and are part of the basic requirements to graduate in the state of TX.


  • English 3 (standard level)
  • English 4 (standard level)
  • English 3 AP (higher level)
  • English 4 AP (higher level)
  • US History (standard level)
  • US History AP (higher level)

The CP Core

A key element of the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme is the CP core. The CP core enhances a student's personal and interpersonal development, with an emphasis on experiential, hand's on learning.


Students in IBC will be enrolled in a "Personal & Professional Skills" course that spans the junior and senior year and is designed to develop attitudes, skills and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now and in the future. Within the PPS course students will have the opportunity to work towards completion of the other 3 components of the CP core:


  • Service Learning - the development and application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified and authentic community need
  • Reflective Project - students identify, analyze, and critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue arising from their career related study (architecture & construction, business management, culinary, or engineering)
  • Language Development - encourages students to improve their proficiency in a language other than their best language

In it's first year as an IBC campus CHS will continue to partner with the district's Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and offer the following career related pathways:


  • Architecture & Construction
  • Business Management
  • Culinary
  • Engineering

Who is IBC for?

Once final approval is given for the 2020-2021 school year, CHS will offer the IBC program because it really is for every student! Whether looking to move onto a higher education institution or move right into the workforce, the CP (career programme) is designed for students interested in pursuing a career-related education and provides an excellent foundation to support future studies, as well as ensure preparedness for success in the workforce. And best of all, it fits well within current Texas requirements for graduation and allows for involvement in all the wonderful extracurricular offerings that CHS has to offer. Students do not have to pick and choose - they are able, and encouraged, to do it all at Coronado High School.
