KA Smore #3
Dear KA Families,
Thank you for sharing your spectacular children with us! It has been an exciting two weeks in KA. We have gone to the park for the first time, we have begun to prepare ourselves for our first field trip, and we are starting to dig deep into content! Kindergarten is all about learning and having fun! Everyday we are laughing, playing, and learning! We're looking forward to the coming weeks.
With Love,
Ms. Perez & Ms. Nasir
Math
Phonics
In Phonics, we have been reviewing and learning the sounds for the following letters: Ll, Ii, Tt, Oo, Aa, Dd, Cc, Ee, Ff, Gg, Gg, Qq, Uu, Ss, Bb, Pp, Rr, Mn, and Nn. We are skywriting the uppercase and lowercase letters using the fundations writing chart. We are also learning the movement which goes along with each sound, read an alphabet book which has pictures beginning with the letter of the day, explore the letter bin, and lastly watch a funny Sesame Street Letter of the Day video.
Fundations is a part of our day where we work on proper letter formation. We use whiteboards to practice writing each letter as we learn it. We use designated lines (skyline, plane line, grass line, worm line) to learn where to begin and end our letters. We have been working on learning how to write the lowercase letters, t, b, f, n, m, i, l, c, o, a, d, g, s, and u. We enjoy playing games where we come up with our own words for the letter of the day! In the coming weeks we are going to begin writing sentences, count out how many syllables are in the words and reinforce when to use capital letters.

Music
Hello Brooklyn Prospect families!
For the past few weeks, our kindergarteners have been exploring different ways to musically use their voices, and have begun to control their singing. They have also started to do rhymes and games that use a steady beat. If you have heard your child chanting “My Father Is a Butcher” or singing “How did you get to school today?” then you know what this early musical work sounds like. Kindergarteners have also met the conductor extraordinaire Mr. Poppo, and have done some follow-the-leader dancing while singing “Punchinello.” We have also started to learn two songs that are a part of BPCS’s singing tradition: our School Song and Count On Me by Bruno Mars. Come by any Wednesday morning to share some singing time with us and hear how great your children sound!
