Fulton Science Academy
EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, CHARACTER
Week of April 10, 2017
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Friends, Family, and FSA Supporters:
We're back! After what I hope was a wonderful spring break, students returned to school today full of smiles as they greeted friends and faculty. Everyone seemed happy to be back and ready to tackle the final phase of our 2016-2017 school year!
Even though vacation is now over, we hope this week proves to be equally wonderful. I spent today conducting a STEM Certification Review at the Wadsworth Magnet School and greatly enjoyed observing several best practices in action, as well as networking with other leaders in STEAM education.
I'm also pleased to announce that, as part of our ongoing commitment to our greater community, this Friday, I will be meeting with the Executive Director of the Alpharetta Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Kelsey Lynch. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss FSA's student-driven STEAM enrichment projects and to see if any local companies or businesses would benefit by having one of their operational challenges assigned to an FSA student group to address in conjunction with their future STEAM enrichment project(s). These business-based collaborations would begin in the Fall of 2017.
Ms. Lynch will not only tour our school, but she will also meet with several students who are actively managing STEAM projects right now to better understand the breadth and depth of our student capabilities. I look forward to sharing the results of our meeting next week.
On behalf of everyone here at Fulton Science Academy Private School, welcome back! We've missed you. Here's to a strong finish to an amazing year!
Sincerely,
Kenan Sener
Principal
Motivational Quote of the Week
Fulton Science Academy Receives Gold Participant Badge from Guidestar
Principal Sener commented, "Fulton Science Academy Private School started five years ago with 100 students and, next year may grow to have as many as 550 children in Pre-K through grade 11. Wow! As we continue to manage our growth and expand our philanthropic partnerships to include businesses and foundations, we are happy to receive such a great designation. We look forward to better connecting not only with our current supporters, but also to build new collaborations with GuideStar’s immense online audience of nonprofits, grantmakers, individual donors, and the media."

Me & My Future self: Self-Regulation Through Time
As parents, we are constantly reminding our children to care about today, to make a good decision, and to put greater effort in ‘now’ so that they can reap the benefits later when they are in college. The questions is, " Can our children do that?" Or, "Can they do it well?"
In this talk, Sucheta will discuss the relationship between executive functions and self-regulation as it relates to goal management and future thinking. She will share some practical tips to help our students become ‘future-aware’.
Sucheta Kamath is an Executive Functions Specialist:
- An expert in Executive Functions
- A specialist in Neurogenic Communication disorders
- A Speech Language Pathologist
- A Linguist
- An Educational Consultant
- A Professional Speaker and above all;
- A wife and mother of two teenage boys
We look forward to a great session and hope you will join us!

Atlanta Botanical Gardens Field Trip - Photo Recap
This was especially exciting for 2nd grade as they were able to connect classroom learning of a frog's life cycle to that of the Poison Dart Frogs' in the exhibit. They also observed up close how plants adapt and defend themselves in different environments. Lunch was enjoyed in beautiful Piedmont Park as we were fortunate and missed the rain showers. Students' afternoons ended strolling through the colorful tulips and checking out the new children's exhibit in the gardens!

Home Visits - A Fun Way to meet your teachers!
Home visits are a casual way for your child to spend time with his/her teacher in the comfort of their home. Teachers enjoy having a chance to see children in this comfortable environment, doing whatever makes them most happy and spend time with children and their parents outside of a regular school day.
Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
Students Raise More than $1,500 for St. Baldrick's Foundation
We are happy to say that FSA raised $1,584 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Our student council members did a great job motivating their peers to raise money for such an important cause. The student council members shared information with their homerooms and encouraged everyone to purchase St. Baldrick’s shirts and to donate money to the cause, which aims to eradicate childhood cancer.
As promised, if the school raised $1,500 or more, Mr. Parlak agreed to shave his head. Please stay tuned for more details on this event!
You can learn more about this organization as well as continue to donate online. https://www.stbaldricks.org/ Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success!
