The Stadium Drive Star
November 2017
No School
There will be a half day of school on November 16. Dismissal is at 11:25 a.m. Also, school is not in session November 22 through November 24 for Thanksgiving break.
Food Drive
Student Council needs your help with our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive! This year the donations will go towards filling the shelves of two of our local food pantries– Oxford/Orion FISH and the Lake Orion Lions Club. These organizations are extremely generous in supporting community members in need during the holiday season, and this is one of our opportunities to give back! Continue reading, and click the link at the bottom to see the flyer for more details!
Student Council has set a goal of donating 4,500 non-expired, non-perishable food items and we will meet this goal if each classroom collects at least 250 items!
Items can be brought to school and given directly to the classroom teachers during the window of November 1 through November 15. Student Council members will collect the donated items from classrooms and will package them for pick-up before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Student Council thanks you for your support and donations!
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spirit Wear Sale
Student Council has an exciting opportunity coming your way with Stadium Drive Elementary School Spirit Wear! A new Stadium Drive logo was designed, and will be featured on all items. At the conclusion of the sale, Student Council members will work together to decide how the proceeds from this fundraiser will most benefit our school.
The sale will be live online from today, November 6, until Friday, November 17. There will be a table with a variety of sample items to view at Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 14 and November 16. Paper order forms will be available if you are interested in completing an order on the spot with exact change or a check made out to Custom Sports and Apparel.
All orders will be delivered to school the first week of December and will be sent home with students on Friday, December 8. This will ensure that all items are home in time for holiday gift giving opportunities!

Thank you!

*If you are interested in ordering and paying with a check/cash, please contact Lisa Drumm (Lisa.Drumm@lok12.org) in the main office and she will send a paper order form home with your student. Paper orders also need to be returned by November 17.
Lost and Found
Student Attendance
It is important to keep the office apprised of student absences, illnesses and dismissal changes. Please copy Lisa Barry (lisa.barry@lok12.org) and Lisa Drumm (lisa.drumm@lok12.org) on emails to the classroom teacher or contact the office directly at 248-693-5475.
Also, if a student is being released to another parent or riding the bus home with another student, permission from both sets of parents is required. Thank you!
Change in Season
Along with this, the office would gladly take donations of pants and socks size eight and below. We appreciate your generosity! Accidents happen and it is always nice for us to have a change of clothes for those who may need it.
Destination Dragon Dreams
Student achievement and educational excellence form the cornerstones of the Lake Orion Education Foundation (LOEF). The non-profit organization was founded in 1990 and manages both an annual giving program and permanent endowment to fund classroom grants for our school district’s educators at all grade levels.
Mini-Grants Reward Great Ideas
The Foundation invites teachers and advisors to apply for mini-grants, typically ranging from $100 to $1,000, to help defray the costs of programs, materials or services that provide Lake Orion students with enhanced educational opportunities. Over the past eight years alone the Foundation has distributed more than $200,000 in grants to deserving educators.
The Foundation works in conjunction with the Lake Orion Community Schools district, but is a completely independent, non-profit entity. It does not engage in advocacy activities related to education policy or curriculum issues. The Foundation focuses on providing grant funding for educators in the classroom that have great ideas to benefit students.
We Need Your Help!
The Foundation hosts several fundraising events annually. The generous donations of hundreds of people in our community and elsewhere have allowed the Foundation to award grants to educators at every school in the Lake Orion district, positively impacting thousands of students.

PTO News
The PTO has been incredibly busy this October! Here are some updates on the various events held throughout the month:
Our Color Run was wildly successful, beating our record donation amounts from last year! This year we raised $24,276.70, which surpassed our goal of $14k and surpassed last year's record year of $21,561.01! We cannot believe the amount of support we received from all of you to make this event so successful for our PTO. All of this money goes back to our school and our children, so we are incredibly thankful for your support!!
On October 13, the PTO hosted a movie night at school to raise money for the Crowther family and their fight against cancer. This was another successful event, raising $2,570 for this family. The outpouring of love that we have witnessed from all of the school families is amazing.
We are continuing the Crowther family meal train, so please consider donating a meal, which can be dropped off at school at 3:30 p.m. the day of: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/l7vo2w
On October 21, 43 students joined Mr. Murray and Mr. Rutledge at Urban Air for the prize they earned with their Color Run donations. This event was so exciting and fun! Thank you to everyone who attended and a special thank you to Mr. Murray and Mr. Rutledge for donating their time, but really you could tell they were having just as much fun as the kids!
On October 27, the PTO held our third annual Halloween Trunk or Treat event, and guess what? It was loads of fun! Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, so we had to move the event inside. I'm not going to lie, I thought it would turn out a disaster! How can we possibly have "Trunk or Treat" without TRUNKS?! The event name indicates you MUST have trunks, right? Well, our Stadium families that volunteered to be "trunks" really, really turned creative and decorated their wall spaces so amazingly that the event turned out to be super fun despite the cold, dreary rain pouring down outside! A HUGE, HUGE thanks to Cristina Tesch and her husband, who spent hours organizing this event! This was no small task! Thank you both for making this so successful. We also must send a HUGE thank you to our custodial team who cleaned up after our event. And lastly, congrats to the Guth family for winning the best "Trunk" with their Witches Apothecary setup! It looked awesome!
The first weekend of November was also incredibly busy for our PTO! On Friday, November 3 our DK/K friends, who earned their teacher Color Run prize, went to LegoLand with their grade level teachers. Everyone had so much fun! That same evening our moms enjoyed a special evening out to see the movie Bad Moms. As a PTO fundraiser, we were able to rent the entire theater for this event, which allowed our moms to bring their friends and enjoy a few relaxing hours to themselves! Thank you Elena Wollborg and Karla Rybak for organizing this event for all of us busy moms! November 4, our first graders who earned their teacher Color Run prize, went bowling at Classic Lanes, in Rochester with their grade teachers. This was another fun event that we were excited to host!
October may be over, but the PTO isn't taking a break! Here are some events that are coming up in November, so keep an eye out for more information.
- November 12 from 11:00am - 1:00pm: Second graders who earned the teacher Color Run prize, will be bowling with their teachers at Classic Lanes in Rochester. Invites went out at the end of October.
- November 19: Fourth and fifth graders who earned the teacher Color Run prize, will be seeing the movie Wonder with their teachers at Oxford Theater. Invites went out at the end of October, but another note will come home closer to the movie date with the actual time of the event, so please watch for that in your child's mail!
- November 30: Our vendor show at comes to school! This is the perfect event for all of your holiday shopping needs! Thanks Karla Rybak for organizing the event again this year!
