Weekly update for the Chorus at Austin Middle School
Week 6 Edition
There are MANY updates and important things to note in this week's newsletter. If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email spatrick@pauding.k12.ga.us. This is the fastest and most efficient way to reach me!
CHICK-FIL-A SPIRIT NIGHTS ARE BACK!!
This TUESDAY, September 10th from 5-8pm, will be our first Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night. Come out to the Dallas Chick-Fil-A (at the corner of Hwy 278 and 61). The more participation we have, the more money Chick-Fil-A will donate to our chorus program! Please tell your friends, family, neighbors....literally everyone you know, to come join us on Tuesday night. You don't even have to come into the store. Go through the drive through and tell them you are there to support the Austin Middle School chorus! If you do come in, you can see me, and students will receive an Eagle Buck for participating! You have to eat dinner.....why not help the chorus, too?!
Have a GREAT week!
Mrs. Patrick

What's happening in 8th Grade?
This week, we will be working on our music for our Fall Concert. We will do a text study of our piece "Will There Really Be a Morning" based on the poem by Emily Dickinson. We'll also discuss imagery as it applies to the text of the music we are singing.
What's happening in 7th Grade?
What's happening in 6th Grade?
This week, we will begin working on music for our Veteran's Day concert, and begin discussing concert etiquette and how to evaluate a performance.
Reminder: Sixth grade chorus will not be performing on the fall concert, but is required to attend in order to meet standards of audience etiquette and performance evaluation. AND it gives them an opportunity to see what a middle school concert is like before having to perform.

Paulding's Next Star
Auditions have closed and the participants have been selected! We don't have any current students participating this year, but THREE students who were former chorus students at AMS made it to the final round! We are so proud of Hadley Davis, Joy Alfaro, and Melissa Wainwright! Congratulations to these awesome AMS Chorus alumni!
If you would like to purchase tickets to the Paulding's Next Star event on this Saturday, September 14th, tickets can be purchased through the choral department. Please send cash, check (made to AMS) or pay on RevTrak. Tickets are $10/each. The event begins at 6pm on Saturday at PCHS!
GMEA District VII Honor Chorus
There is a $30 registration fee for DHC. All of this fee is passed along to GMEA. If you'd like to make a donation to help offset the cost of transportation for this event, you can send with the $30, or separate. Thank you!
Rehearsals will begin next week after school. You MUST log 8 hours of rehearsal time in order to participate in DHC. (This is a GMEA rule, not mine, but a good one!) The better prepared you are, the more you will get out of the honor chorus experience. Rehearsals are not mandatory, but you are responsible for learning the music and providing documentation of all rehearsal time. Students will receive a rehearsal log and details about how to use the rehearsal program will be provided at the first scheduled rehearsal.

Your Choral Director, Mrs. Shelley Patrick
When not at school, I spend time with my husband Mike, and my two children, Daniel (a junior), and Molly (8th grade). I'm originally from Orlando, Florida and I spend several weeks a year visiting with family, visiting the theme parks, and going to the beach. I also spend my spare time reading, and spending time with my friends and family.
