One-Day MDE Student Growth Workshop

When: Feb. 27, 2020
Where: MELG Office Building

Districts often have more questions than answers when it comes to accurately measuring student growth and appropriately attributing that growth to educators.

This one-day workshop is intended for school and district administrators interested in adopting student growth practices that are compliant with legislative requirements described within MCL 380.1249 and MCL 380.1249b. • Access to district assessment data would be helpful to the participant but not required.
  • Laptops with access to the internet would be helpful to the participant but not required.

2020 School Wellness Award

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announces the launch of the 2020 School Wellness Award. The award encourages Michigan schools to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco/nicotine-free lifestyles for students and staff. The Michigan School Wellness Award recognizes and applauds schools working to create healthier school environments by establishing School Health Teams, completing the Healthy School Action Tools (HSAT) assessments and action plan, and implementing sustainable policy and environmental changes. All Michigan K-12 public and non-public schools are eligible to apply. The School Wellness Award will recognize schools committed to increasing student achievement with a healthier school community. Award winning schools will be recognized in May 2020 during a ceremony at the state capitol with local legislators.

The MDHHS, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education, United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Action for Healthy Kids invite schools to apply for the award by April 16, 2020. The online application can be found at http://swa.mihealthtools.org, along with additional information about the award and creating healthy school environments.
