Thursday's Thoughts

Respect
Next week, we will move to breach recess. These two recesses will occur at 10:00 and again at 1:30. For students who breach prior to 10:00, they will come to the 10:00 recess. For students who breach after 10:00 but before 1:30. they will come to the 1:30 recess. If a student breaches after 2:00, they will need to come to the 10:00 breach recess the following day. During this recess, we will be doing rigorous physical activity and implementing other consequences for disrespectful actions. You will need to help us with this. At 10:00 & 1:30 each day, please use your walkie to tell us who you are sending down to the benches in the lobby. We will keep them for 20-30 minutes. During your recess time, these students will need to sit and complete work they have missed while attending breach recess. We will have breach recess for two weeks. After this time, we will start over with immediate breaches on a new trait. As of now, we are leaning toward work ethic, but we will nail this down closer to the time.
Please help us by keeping in close contact with your parents. If you have students who are breaching and/or failing your class, please make sure you are calling parents and keeping them in the know. I know conferences are occuring, but I want us to be in the habit of keeping the lines of communication very open with our parents.

Retake Policy
*No retakes on quizzes.
*Any student who fails a test, must be retaught and retested.
*Reteaching occurs on Thursdays during recess. One teacher stays in with the group to be retaught while the other teachers take the remaining students outside. The teacher who stays in can rotate by week. The teacher works with the students to make sure they understand what they missed, reteach if necessary, and/or give time for students to study.
*Retesting occurs Friday mornings in the cafeteria from 7:45-8:15. After the students have been retaught, they report to the cafeteria for retesting. Mr. White and I will be there to monitor.
*Prior to a child staying in for reteaching on Thursdays, a note is sent to parents along with a picture of the failed test (iPad) stating that reteaching and retesting will occur. The parents must be notified and see the test prior to reteaching and retesting.I know many of you just have students to make corrections and that is fine. However, the parent must be able to see the test to help their child study. It is optimal to give the student a different test for retesting. I know this is sometimes difficult to create another test.
*The highest a student can make on a retest is 79.
