Meet Mrs. Renee Thomas
Band Teacher at Daphne Middle School
What is your educational philosophy?
She wants her students to be independent learners, creative thinkers, and thoughtful people. Music is cool because it allows you to use your imagination to express ideas and emotions and it is something you can do alone or with others.
If you weren’t a teacher what would you want to be?
Mrs. Thomas says she wouldn’t know because she loves teaching music!
If you could go anywhere on summer break, where would it be?
She would love to either go to Scotland, Spain, Italy, or Greece.
Where did you go to college? What degrees do you have?
Mrs. Thomas got degrees at University of Alabama, Cincinnati College, and she is a national board certified teacher.`
How old were you when you decided to be a teacher?
She joined the band in 7th grade, and within six months, she knew she wanted to learn how to play all instruments and wanted to be a band director.

Coach Woodham's health class for February
Recipe of the week
Ingredients

- 9 large egg yolks
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Flaky sea salt (such as Maldon®), to garnish
Directions
Prep

2 hour 10 minutes
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Place 6 (6.5 ounce) ramekins in a baking dish.
- Place sugar evenly in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Without stirring, allow sugar to slowly melt around the edges of the pan, about 5 minutes, adjusting heat as necessary. When edges start to bubble, shake and swirl pan to dissolve remaining sugar but without stirring it. Keep pan moving until you have a clear, dark caramel, about 10 minutes. When sugar is completely dissolved, whisk in cream; caramel will cool into a lump; this is normal. Keep stirring over medium heat until caramel melts and mixture comes up to temperature and sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat
- Stir in kosher salt, vanilla, and cold milk; mix well.
- Place egg yolks in a large mixing bowl. Whisk in a ladleful of caramel/milk mixture to the yolks. Add 2 more ladlefuls, one at a time. Then mix in the remainder of the caramel/milk mixture to the yolks, whisking until thoroughly blended.
- Divide custard mixture evenly among the ramekins. Carefully pour into the baking dish enough water so that it comes halfway up the sides of the filled ramekins.
- Bake in preheated oven until custard is set and the top of custard jiggles evenly across the surface, 45 to 60 minutes (depending on the size of your ramekins and how full they are). If the center seems looser than the edges, continue to bake another minute or so.
- Transfer ramekins to a cooling rack; cool to room temperature. Cover ramekins with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour until they are very cold.
- Serve topped with a pinch of light, flaky sea salt.

What's trending?
We all know how big a deal Rihanna’s creepers for Puma were, and after the Fenty x Puma runway show, it’s apparent that there’s even more to look forward to when it comes to Rihanna-designed footwear. It released on February 26. The singer gave us a look at an ad campaign showing off her no-lace sneakers, called The Trainer, on her Instagram. If you’re into the whole vibey look, then you’re definitely going to want to own these (if you’re lucky enough to snag them before they sell out, that is). Because no doubt about it — they’re a big hit. According to KicksOnFire, the shoes come in black, white and red, so there’s a color to suit your style whether you’d prefer a minimal look or a standout one. Clearly, Rihanna just gets us, doesn’t she? The shoes will be available at Rise & Puma, according to Racked. And I don’t know about you, but I’m already going to try to see when the next time she'll restock and I'll be counting the days until I can attempt to purchase these ultra sleek kicks.
