Math, Science, and Social Studies
*We have almost met our goal of all students completing their final accuracy check. We have 4 students still working this week who are very close. Students who have met this goal will be working on Front Row-Measurement/Data this week.
Science-We began "Name That Shell" last week where students classified shells based on different characteristics. We learned that most shells fit into 2 different categories: Bivalve and gastropods. This week we will use a Dichotomous Key to further classify shells.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Grammar--We will focus this week on simple sentences--subject and predicate, fragments and complete sentences. We will also be talking about compound sentences using conjunctions and a comma.
Reading--We will wrap up our whole-group novel this week. Also, students will meet in book clubs and will have their final reading assignment for this book (due next Monday). We will be working on storymapping and summaries. We will also go over the common assessment we took last week.
Writing--We will continue our research as we focus on non-fiction text structures. Students will be working to create a magazine about their time period. It will include all of the text structures we've learned about as well as several nonfiction text features. They can work on this at home, but they certainly are not required to and will have plenty of time at school to work! We will be discussing the expectations and looking at examples on Wednesday.
