Secondary Transfer Requests for the 2018/2019 School Year
The On Line Numbering System for SECONDARY transfer requests for the 2018-19 school year will be available beginning December 11th at 6:30 am. If you would like to apply for a transfer to a middle school outside of your attendance zone, you will need to log in beginning December 11th to receive a number to hold a place in line for the January 3rd transfer day. If you plan for your child to attend their normal feeder school, you do not need to apply for a transfer request.
See the link below for more information.
Winter Parties
Please only attend the party if you have signed up to volunteer, and please no younger siblings.
Is your student missing a coat?
The Lost and Found is full!
Please ask your student to look for any missing items.
All clothing left in the lost and found at the end of the semester, Wednesday December 20th, will be donated.
SPECIALS CORNER
There has been a lot of creativity happening inside the Barksdale Art room throughout the fall semester.
Last week in Kindergarten, we discussed where clay comes from and how we use it to make art. We practiced making our pinch pots with Crayola Model Magic and, once we were confident, we made them with clay. Next week we will glaze their clay pinch pots.
In First Grade, we read a book called “Owl Moon,” talked about parts of owls, and then created an owl from a slab of clay. This week we will be discussing how clay is fired in a kiln and will be glazing the owls.
We have been discussing parts of a landscape to make beautiful Iceberg Seascapes in Second grade. The students learned about the horizon line and the difference between foreground and background. We used warm colors to paint the sky and cool colors to paint the water. Their favorite part of this project was using a glue and shaving cream mixture to paint snow on their icebergs.
Third and Fourth grade are both working on weaving projects. Third grade is using an old CD to create their loom while fourth is using cardboard. Both grades have mastered the basic Tabby Weave and several students in Fourth grade are experimenting with advanced weaving techniques.
The Fifth graders had a choice between needle felting or sewing a stuffed character. To create the needle-felting project, the students chose a piece of felt and then used a felting needle to attach the fibers. The students that chose to make a character will cut and sew together fabric based on their sketch.
