About Ms.Bruce's Center Rotation
The team at Summer Creek is currently working through the concepts of Volume and Surface Area. Ms.Bruce uses a centers approach to teach the concepts to her students. She does one class period of direct teach to prepare students for the activities. Each center activity typically takes 20 -30 minutes to complete. On a double block schedule, the expectation is that students work through two stations.
Below are some pictures of how each of her centers work cohesively as she is able to work her way around the room to help students on an individual basis. She is also able to pull small group for students who need more individualized instruction.
Ms.Bruce has been using centers for about two and a half years.
Center One is Compass Learning. Each center has instructions and expectations.
Students take Cornell Notes as they work through the assigned lesson.
Students use their CISD issued Laptops.
Center Two is a Self Paced/Group Work activity with Immediate Feedback.
Students are able to get immediate feedback as to whether their answers are correct.
Center Three is a Partner Activity
Students answer questions in the Tic Tac Toe Squares and Ms.Bruce comes around to check the answers as they complete them.
If a student does not get the correct answer the other student can steal.
Center Four is used as Enrichment or Extension.
The students may work in a group and everyone must show work.
These students are working on manipulating equations as an extension of finding missing components in Volume and Surface Area.
