High Point Academy Community
We are looking forward to a great week 3! Our community is buzzing both during and after-school with the sounds of learning, community building, and the excitement that comes from sports tryouts! Below you will find classroom highlights from last week, school-wide updates, and some upcoming events. You can also expect to receive a newsletter from your child's teacher(s) with more specific details about what is being accomplished in the classroom.
Wishing you all a great week!

Safety Updates
This past week we did several safety drills to assure that staff and students are prepared in the case of an emergency. Throughout the year we revisit these drills and will communicate with you when they have occurred. If your child expresses concern, worry or fear because of the drills, please reach out to the teacher and they can connect your child with someone to talk through how they are feeling.
Classroom Highlights
There are so many exciting things to share this week. Teachers continue to build relationships and community with students and are now also digging into content and routines. Middle school students completed the i-ready assessment that serves as a diagnostics and provides teachers with valuable information about what they know in both math and reading. Elementary students will be completing this assessment in the next two weeks. In addition to these diagnostics, students have been engaging in activities that help them see the importance of a growth mindset (6th grade-Garcia), setting personal goals (4th grade-Ford), learning how to work together as a community (1st grade-Hansen), sharing hopes and dreams (3rd grade-Gray), writing about how to make someone feel included (2nd grade-Epp) and creating social contracts (4th grade-Brame)....just to name a few!
Academic Excellence in every classroom is a focus at High Point Academy this year. This means that all students are consistently engaged as active participants and critical thinkers in content that is grade-level appropriate and aligned to the expectations laid out in the Colorado Academic Standards. All these beginning-of-the-year activities are essential to establishing a rigorous learning environment in which it is ok to make a mistake, building learning experiences that happen as a community, and in which teachers hold high expectations for every learner.

6th Grade Outdoor Education Information Session
Each fall 6th graders have the opportunity to spend several days on an outdoor education experience in the mountains. Hiking, community building, and spending time outdoors are all part of this wonderful opportunity. If you are a 6th-grade family, please plan to attend the in-person information session on Tuesday, August 30th, at 6:00 pm. If you are not able to make it, you can also reach out to aazeez@highpointacademy.net for more information.
Parent/Teacher Organization (PT0)
We are excited to launch the Parent Teacher Organization this year, beginning September 7th, at 4:00 pm. If you are interested in getting involved at High Point and being a part of the fundraising efforts that will support the learning experiences we are able to provide to our scholars, then this is the right group for you! Once a month the group will be meeting in the Community Room to plan, review and discuss what we can all do to provide extra resources to our teachers, provide students with unique field trip opportunities, etc. If you are interested in joining, please email info@highpointacademy.net. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
