Challenge II Biology
Challenge Overview for Week 10
- Challenge A is re-reading "number the Stars" before developing a persuasive issue about it, drawing Europe every day (and labeling it), and memorizing Catechism questions and answers. One of this week's questions is "What makes a woodpecker’s beak unique?" As a Challenge A student for the answer.
- Challenge B is reading the Hiding Place and writing an ANI chart (Affirmative, Negative, Information) on an issue that they have chosen from the book; Also discussing Human Rights Issues as it relates to government support of countries that have a poor track record in this area.
- Challenge I will be looking back at the American Documents they have read (including the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence) and seeing how many Latin words they can find, and discussing Global Warming in Science.
- Challenge II will be delving into the novel "A Tale of 2 Cities" and discussing which character is most "recalled to life." In Biology, they will be examining the complexities of a single cell. And in Western Cultural HIstory they will be evaluating Impressionism and what brought about this style of art.
Director Spotlight: Kathi Dunning, Challenge II
I have been married to my wonderful Bill for 23 years. We have 6 uniquely wired children and have homeschooled for 14 years. This is our 7th year with CC and I have loved the fruit it has produced!
My youngest, who enjoys all things active, is Musie and is enrolled in Foundations and Essentials. Maria, our avid gymnast, is in Challenge B. My twins Tyler and James are in the Challenge II class. My older 2 have graduated out of the Challenge program. Lauren is studying at Moody Bible Institute and Jacob is preparing for college next fall. Over the years I have had the privilege of being a Foundations and Essentials Tutor and this year I have the joy of being the Challenge II Director.
As a family we are involved in competitive Speech and Debate and began South Sound Speech and Debate Club in 2010. Our family has a passion for missions and we are grateful for the many trips we've been able to take whether within the US or overseas. For down time we love to be outside playing frisbee, hiking, riding bikes, and (budget permitting) downhill skiing. But for quiet time, nothing is quite as restoring as an engaging book, a cozy blanket, and a cup of coffee!
