My Experience In Photo Journalism

My experience in photo journalism started off kind of weird because I originally didn't sign up for photo journalism, the school just decided to put me in there for some reason. But seeing as I was too lazy to make a schedule change I just decided to stay in the class. I don't regret this decision at all because I actually ended up having a really great time and learning a lot of stuff about taking photos and photojournalism and stuff like that, which I had never learned before. Some of the new stuff that I learned was the different types of composition that you could use to take a photo, such as leading lines, rule of thirds, etc. Before I would just pull out my phone and take pictures not really thinking about that kind of stuff, but now I'm always worrying about what kind of lighting and composition I have (It really annoys my friends when they want to take a picture, but you can't argue with the results.). My favorite project we have done would probably be the alphabet assignment because it really required a lot more creativity and an eye for things so you could find the right letter and it was interesting seeing all the different ways people found the same letters. After taking this class I have a better appreciation for photography and the jobs that photojournalist have.

Laws and Ethics

One of the codes of ethics is, "Do not accept gifts, favors, or compensation from those who might seek to influence coverage.". This basically means that you cannot accept bribes from the people you are covering so they don't have an impact on the outcome of the photo.

Another one of the code of ethics is, "Do not intentionally sabotage the efforts of other journalists.". This means that you shouldn't try to ruin a photo that a fellow photojournalist is trying to take.

One final code from the code of ethics is, "Resist being manipulated by staged photo opportunities.". So basically don't try to force a photo, just let the photo opportunities come naturally and they'll turn out well.
