SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE AN ORIGINAL VOGELTOWN LEARNER'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS - WEEK 1 and 2 - FOODS
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
As you will probably know, we had a distressing start to the long weekend with a fire intentionally lit outside Room 1. The person who lit the fire has been caught and we are going through the process of sorting insurance to get the classroom fixed and re-furnished as soon as possible - this may not be until the start of next year. A big thanks to our Rm 1 whanau who made the trek to the senior school for a few days this week to be in the library. Also a big thanks to Miss Matthews who has set up a Rm 2, in record time, to be the home of our Rm 1 learners for the rest of 2022!
I want to acknowledge our Vogeltown community as well. When I arrived on the school site on Saturday evening to something as distressing and worrying as a school fire, it was comforting to see our Vogeltown community at the school gates ready to help in any way! Thanks whanau, I really appreciate the support, the offers of help and the help you all gave the Police and Fire Service. A big thanks to our Vogeltown teaching team who helped out on Monday cleaning and clearing! Tu Meke, Vogeltown whanau!
On a brighter note, we have had some amazing talents on offer this week as we move through the syndicate heats and in to the main heats for the annual Talent Quest! We have some amazing, talented learners and performers here at Vogeltown! A big thanks to Mrs Sutton for her organisation and efforts!
Next week we start the week with school photos on Monday - a reminder that you will receive instructions from Photolife on how to purchase photos once the photos have been taken. Cheese!!
We are beginning to notice a resurgence of Covid-19 cases at school over the last week. Please can you be vigilant and keep children home if they are showing any symptoms and let the school know immediately. If you need any more test kits, please let us know - the school has plenty.
Another reminder that Term 4 means all our learners must wear a 'bucket' hat at school. As the term goes on we are expecting the temperatures to climb and this means the sun is more intense. Thanks for your support with this policy whanau. We do sell Vogeltown bucket hats at the school office but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team
YEAR 6 HIGHLANDS ORIENTATION
Kia ora whanau,
Next Wednesday 2nd November, we have been invited to attend the Highlands Year 6 orientation tour for those Yr 6 learners going to Highlands Intermediate in 2023.
The orientation starts at 9:30am in the Highlands school hall. We ask, rather than our Yr 6 learners coming to school first, it would be beneficial if you could transport your Yr 6 child to Highlands at this time. Parents and whanau are invited to be a part of this tour. If you can not get your child there, please email me at principal@vogeltown.school.nz and we will try and sort some transport there and back.
The tour goes for an hour, so should be completed close to 10:30am. We ask that no students are dropped off at Highlands and asked to walk back to Vogeltown. We will transport kids back if this is the case - again let me know on the above email.
When the Yr 6 learners come back to school, we ask them to please sign in at the school office so we know they are back on site.

YEAR 5 AND 6 CAMP, 2023
Every 2 years, we hold a camp for all our Year 5 and 6 students. Our 2023 camp will be held from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February at Vertical Horizon in Inglewood.
The cost of camp will be $155 per child. We are part of the Ministry of Education's donation scheme, but would still appreciate donations towards the cost of camp. We have loaded the camp fees onto Kindo so that families are able to spread the cost out over the coming months. Cash and EFTPOS payments will also be welcomed.
Our camp cannot function without parent support. If you would like to attend camp as a parent helper, you will need to complete a Police Vetting Form. These can be collected from the Senior Office. We also need to sight one form of photographic ID.
More information about camp will continue to become available over the coming months.
Regards
The Paetoki Team
LUCKY BOOK CLUB
Orders close this coming Monday 31st October at 9:00am - please ensure you place your order online before then. Thanks whanau!

ART WHAKAMATAU
We have been very lucky to have a small group working on their art with Angela Buckland in the Art Whakamatau (Bungee). This is an extension programme offered to our kids for Fridays. Check out the awesome art they completed today - it is a celebration of life and the catalyst was from the movie 'Coco'. Tu Meke team!

4 YEAR OLD FRIDAY - TERM 4 2022
ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available
from the school office.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period runs from 1 February 2023 to 6 April 2023.
The second enrolment period runs from 24 April 2023 to 30 June 2023.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students
turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely
to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by
16 December 2022. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments
received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt
of out of zone places is Friday 3 February 2023. Application for enrolment for an out of
zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the
school office and off our school website). Applications can be sent via email to
office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2023
should apply by 30th September 2022 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2023
school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the
number of places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with
instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on
Tuesday 7 February 2023.
Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Friday 10 February
2023.
