Christmas Countdown
Excitement has flooded the building as our students begin counting down the days to winter break! Several weeks ago we had a school-wide celebration to mark the end of the second six weeks. A video was shown that encouraged students to be leaders for positive change in their schools, homes, and communities. The video emphasized the idea of respect and challenged students "to treat everyone like it was their birthday everyday." I thought this was so interesting and it really stuck with me. It apparently stuck with our students too as a teacher reported that a student spontaneously wished her a happy birthday last week. When she thanked the student but regretfully informed him that it was not her birthday, he said, "I know but remember we should treat everybody like it's their birthday everyday." Everyone is special and deserves to be treated like its a special occasion. Here's hoping that the spirit of Christmas and birthdays is upon you this holiday season and through the year!
Giving Tree Tradition for the Ronald McDonald House
It is annual tradition at KP to collect items that we donate to our local Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House serves as a home away from home for families with seriously ill children receiving medical treatment at local hospitals. Our KP student council is hosting a contest to see which grade level can fill their designated box under the tree in the foyer with the most items. Items will be collected throughout the month of December. Items that the RMHC requests for donation include:
- Rolls of Stamps*
- Glad plug-in refills (vanilla)
- Solid air fresheners (vanilla)
- Keurig K-Cups (any flavor)*
- Individual boxes of cereal*
- AA & AAA Batteries
- Paper Towels
- Individual bags of chips, snacks, pudding, crackers*
- Plastic Spoons
* = Items in crucial need
