And the Winner Is........
A special thanks to all the staff and parents that helped make this a successful event for your students.
NWEA
During the month of January 2021, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child's skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades 6, 7, and 8 take the tests in September, January, and April. Following each testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.
Please see the attached chart for each grade-level schedule and directions for Fully Remote Students.
Sincerely,
Scott Stockwell

Parent Teacher Conferences
Dear Parents and students,
We are planning to hold REMOTE Parent-Teacher Conferences again this trimester. The date is Tuesday, January 19th, between 4:00 and 7:00 PM. Here are the details:
Conferences will be split into 10-minute Zoom meetings with the entire grade-level team
The links to the sign-up sheets are available below.
Be sure to include a valid email address and a phone number where we can reach you.
There is a separate link for each grade-level, Ms. Barg, Mrs. Irwin, Mr. Oaster, and Mrs. Williams.
Once you sign up for a time slot, a follow-up email with the Zoom meeting link will be sent to the address you provide in the sign-up sheet.
If you are unable to make Zoom work, continue to sign up for a time slot in the links below, and then reach out to Mr. Stockwell at scotstoc@hpsvikings.org to request a phone call instead.
On the night of conferences, you will join the Zoom meeting in a “Waiting Room.” The teaching staff will admit you to the Zoom conference at your appointed time.
Please keep in mind we are trying something new this year. If all the time slots fill up and you are unable to sign up, please reach out to the individual teachers via email with any of your questions. Please give teachers a full week after conferences to respond, as they each have approximately 120 students.
Due to the limited number of slots available, I will be activating the Sign-up Sheets at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 11th. This will give everyone a chance to read this message and plan appropriately for sign-ups.
If you have any questions or concerns about our REMOTE Parent-Teacher Conferences this year, please reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Scott Stockwell
HMS Principal
