Where are Peregrine Falcons Found?

Peregrine Falcons are found in almost all continents except for Antarctica. There are 17 subspecies of peregrine, but only 3 subspecies are found in North America.

Why are they important?

Peregrine Falcons have had many uses over the years. They have been used to:

  • Hunt game
  • Intercept carrier pigeons
  • Keep birds away from airfields
  • Keep rodents and small birds in check

Are they endangered?

No. Peregrine Falcons are listed as a "least concern" species. However, they were at one time endangered due to the use of organochlorides (such as DDT). The falcons have since made a full recovery.
