Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle
January 2020
Our Cougars REALLY know how to ROAR!
- Next time you visit Cottonwood Creek, be sure to check out the My Principal is Proud of Me wall. Throughout the year, teachers can recognize students for their ROAR behavior. To do so, teacher write up a positive behavior referral to the office, students are called down to the principal's office, celebrated and their picture gets added to the wall. It is one of the highlights of my job; celebrating the great things our students do!
- A giant thank you for all your time, donations and support with the boodle boxes. We sent 74 boxes this year (33 last year)!!! The kids had a blast sorting and filling the boxes, making cards, writing letters and creating ornaments. We need to send a special shout out to all of our families who came in to the school to support the project with your time and hard work. This project would not have happened without you! The boxes have left the USA and have made it to our group of special soldiers and airmen. We received a thank you note already sharing how amazing the boxes were and how thankful they are for our students thinking of them at this holiday season. Thank you again for making this project a success!
Please welcome the following to our Cougar family!
- Andrea Aibner as one of our 5th grade teachers. Andrea will be co-teaching and co-planning with our 5th grade team.
- Michelle Christ as one of our new Para educators.
We are thrilled to have you both as part of our Cottonwood Creek staff.
Students can donate/bring $1 to wear a hat or bring a stuffed animal to school on Friday, January 31st. All proceeds will go towards Power Week (Bags of Fun is the organization that will provide "bags of fun" for kids with cancer). Cherry Creek High School is going to provide a donut party to the class that raises the most money!
Cottonwood Creek Advisory Committee (CCAC)
The Cottonwood Creek Advisory Committee is an opportunity to contribute to our school improvement planning efforts. This committee is intended to provide an opportunity for communication and transparency between administration and our community. Attendance is open to all and we welcome your participation and support. This to be an opportunity to address topics of interest and/or concern.
Our next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, February 13th; we will meet in our innovation space from 6:00-7:00pm. The agenda will come prior to the meeting.
Electronic Communication Devices
We have noticed several students wearing Smart Watches, which are considered “electronic communication devices”, to school. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that electronic communication devices are turned off and out of sight during unauthorized times. At Cottonwood Creek, electronic communication devices are unauthorized during the school day (7:45-2:45), unless directed otherwise by school staff.

From Digital Media - Sarah Hammershaimb
Thank you Cottonwood families for your generous gift at the end of December. It is a privilege working with your students and this community, and I am grateful for your expression of care. I hope that you all enjoyed moments of rest during the winter break.
In digital media this month, students will be working with a variety of technologies to produce digital artifacts. 3rd-5th grade students will be using Adobe products to create websites, digital stories or graphics. K-2nd grade students will be using technology to create images and digital stories.
P.E. Post It!
Happy New Year 2020!
We start out the new year with the Kids Heart Challenge! Cottonwood was the top donating school in CO last year! Your contributions to the American Heart Association earned monies for our PE Department and new equipment was purchased for the school year! A BIG thank you goes out to all families!
We will practice jump rope, hula hoop, and basketball skills during our four week program as well as learning heart health facts.
Jump Day: Friday, February 7th
Any parents available to help out during the program, please email me at ajehn@cherrycreekschools.org
Looking forward to February: PE and Music classes will combine to practice and learn Sock Hop dances. Sock Hop will be February 28th!
Thank you!

From the Music Room
Hello Cottonwood,
It’s good to be back in the groove after Winter Break and I hope everyone had a great time with friends and family. In music news, after a couple last minute scheduling snafus, the Third and Fourth grade choir will be performing their concert this Thursday at 6:30 for parents and family. They will also be performing for the school at an assembly on Wednesday at 1:45. Looking ahead, Second and Fourth grades will begin preparing for their grade level performances which will happen in late April. Fifth grade will also have the opportunity to sign up for our after-school choir later this month. And lets not forget one of the most fun events Cottonwood has to offer, the Sock Hop! Students in music and PE will be combining to refresh our dance moves and get ready for this school dance. We hope to see everyone there!
