There will be student performances and food trucks. Current 7th and 8th grade families, as well as incoming 6th and 7th grade families, are welcome to attend.

This past Monday marked our Spring Solstice as well as the start of the Persian New Year - Nowruz. I love finding what I call "cultural cousins" -- cultural similarities across languages and spaces. Nowruz Mobarak to those who celebrate!

Thank you for continuing to drive safely in the bus loop and around the neighborhood for drop-offs and pick-ups. Please also make sure that you do not block driveways -- we have received a few complaints recently.

Dear Hopkins Families,

This past week we have been experiencing district-wide WiFi issues sporadically. Our district technicians are diligently working on addressing the problems that unfortunately have created challenges to lessons that involved the Internet. We're hopeful that this will be resolved by next week.

Meanwhile, we continue to make progress towards our middle school transitions. We will be welcoming a second assistant principal, a 6th grade counselor, and many of our 6th grade teaching positions have been filled. We will make more specific announcements when appropriate. In this past week, our Incoming 7th Grade Family Webinar had close to 400 participants, and the Incoming 7th Grade Dual Immersion Family Webinar had over 100 attendees. We are excited about our expanding Hopkins family!

Teacher of the Year: Congratulations to Ms. Haidi Wang who was selected by staff as Hopkins' Teacher of the Year! Ms. Wang has been instrumental in strengthening the Mandarin Immersion Program and supporting our ELD students. We deeply appreciate her contributions to our Hopkins community.

7th Grade Career Exploration: In the coming weeks our 7th grade counselor, Ms. Meg Moore, will be guiding our 7th graders through the resource California Career Zone. This is a free website the district is using as a tool to explore careers and colleges. Students will need to create an account using their school email. We will be asking all students to sign up as 13 years old as the alternative would require several extra steps for students to get permission from parents to start an account. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Ms. Moore at mmoore@fusdk12.net or (510) 656-3500 ext. 38107.

School Site Council Meeting: Our next School Site Council is Thursday (3/9), 2:45-3:45 PM in the Hopkins' D Nest (D building flex space). The meeting is regularly attended by student, parent/guardian, and staff representatives, and is open to the public -- any interested students and parents/guardians are welcome to join. Please see the meeting agenda.

Continued Family-School Partnership: As the weather warms in the spring, we have observed that some students may have less patience with peer conflicts. We encourage families to continue to communicate with your student's counselor, assistant principal Mrs. Jennifer Moore, and/or me when you have information about students that could become a safety concern when unaddressed. Information that you share about students is always confidential, with the exception of situations where we need to involve Fremont Police. We believe and practice proactive interventions through restorative conversations -- creating a safe place where we facilitate conversations for students to talk through a misunderstanding or issue and agree on how they would like to be treated moving forward.

Incoming 6th Grade Family Webinars: Zoom links are linked on our registration page that is also accessible from our website. Spanish and Mandarin interpretations are available.
